DURANGO, Colo. – The Fort Lewis College track and field program has added Joshua Drew as the Associate Head Coach, announced by Head Coach Shawn Jakubowski on Friday.

"I am very happy to welcome Joshua to our programs as the Associate Head Track and Field Coach. He will be tasked with starting up the school's first-ever men's sprint and jump program as well as restarting the women's," said Jakubowski. "As soon as I interviewed him, I knew he was the perfect fit for us and that he would be able to get this program up and running in no time. He brings a wealth of coaching knowledge and is a proven recruiter, but more importantly, I know he will be a great role model for our student-athletes on and off the track."

Drew will join the staff in preparation for the inaugural indoor track and field season which begins in 2023. The addition of indoor track and field will allow the Skyhawks to expand their current event offerings to include sprints, jumps, and other shorter-distance races, opening the recruiting pool to current and future student-athletes to grow the program.

Fort Lewis will join 13 additional Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference institutions that compete in indoor track and field. The season typically runs from early December through early March at the NCAA Division II Indoor Championships.

"I'm very excited and thankful for this new opportunity to build upon the foundation that has already been laid," expressed Drew. "I believe that Fort Lewis College is something special, and I'm excited to get started. Thank you to coach Jakubowski and Travis Whipple for believing in me and allowing me to become part of this family."

Drew brings with him a strong background in track and field as both an NCAA Division II student-athlete and a coach. He competed for Minot State University from 2014-2018 as a sprinter. In 2017, he placed in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) Outdoor Conference Championship in the 4x400 meter relay.

He remained involved in the program as a graduate assistant from 2018-2020 where he wrote and conducted sprinting and jumping practices each day and served as the main recruiter for sprinters and jumpers. He also monitored CARA logs, wrote travel itineraries, and monitored the academic progress of the sprinters and jumpers.

Most recently, Drew has been the track and field and cross country assistant coach at Erskine College (NCAA DII) in Due West, South Carolina since 2020. In his three years with the program, he has coached four All-Regions triple jumpers, one All-Region shot putter, one All-Region 200m sprinter, five All-Conference triple jumpers, and one All-Conference athlete in each of the following events: shot put, 100m, 200m, 400m, 400m hurdles, and 4x400 relays.

Drew graduated from Minot State University with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration before earning his Master of Science in Sport Management from MSU in May 2021.
