Fourth-quarter struggles sink Skyhawks against No. 16/14 ThunderWolves

Walker supplies career-high three touchdowns

DURANGO, Colo. – In a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference contest up on Ray Dennison Memorial Field that saw No. 16/14-ranked CSU Pueblo (6-1, 5-0 RMAC) outgain Fort Lewis (1-5, 0-4 RMAC) 614 yards to 280 yards, the Skyhawks danced toe-to-toe with the nationally ranked ThunderWolves leading the opposition 14-13 at halftime and trailing just 30-21 heading into the fourth quarter before The Pack exploded for 28 points in the final 15 minutes for a lopsided score on Saturday afternoon in front of a crowd of 1,795.

"Disappointed that we lost, there were aspects of the game I was excited about. Things that we should have been celebrating at the end of the game. However, the last quarter fell apart, and I didn't like how we played as far as the amount of discipline, and we played a little emotionally in the last quarter and we saw that what we were fighting for got out of hand after that," head coach Johnny Cox shared. "But, if we look at the first three quarters, the first half, and the first quarter, we were really able to accomplish some internal goals that were set. The kids fought the entire game; we established some grit. But now we have to play winning football through the end of games to be more successful."

Stone Walker went for three touchdowns on the day, including two scores and an interception through the air on 20 of 33 (60.6 percent) passing for 214 yards while adding on another 29 yards and one touchdown while taking a pair of sacks. CSU Pueblo's Roman Fuller, who entered the game at the 10:56 mark in the second quarter as CSUP trailed 7-3, went on to lead The Pack with 216 yards, three touchdowns, and one interception with 10 completions in 19 attempts (52.6 percent). Skyhawks defenders made four tackles for loss in the contest while CSU Pueblo racked up five sacks and 10 tackles for loss.

Outside of quarterbacks, Fort Lewis rushers only lost three yards on the day, led by Cameron Mack's 17 yards on five carries. Calvin Raab and Orlando Guevara led the Skyhawks wideouts with five receptions each for 42 and 24 yards, respectively, but it was Jamille Humphrey who led the squad with 60 yards and his first collegiate touchdown on a four-yard slant.

The Pack's Reggie Retzlaff lived up to his reputation as the conference leader in receiving hauled in 158 yards and one touchdown on a game-high ten receptions. Taylor Tosches went two-for-two on receptions for touchdowns with 52 yards with Tyler Dvorak adding 75 yards and a touchdown on four catches as well. On the ground, Howard Russell V, Emmanuel Fincher, and Ty Virgin all rushed for one score.

Gary Seidenberger led the ThunderWolves with a game-high nine total tackles, all solo tackles, with one tackle for loss. In addition to a pass breakup, Seidenberger brought down an interception with a four-yard return. Dre'Monti Jackson, Oliver Welch, and Donovon Guyton each made an interception as well. As for the Skyhawks, Kalib Davis led the roster with seven total tackles, all solo, with a pass breakup and a fumble recovery. Samuel Ballas and Jacob Penney each picked up their second career forced fumbles while Juma Kashanda brought down his first career interception and paired it with a 12-yard return.
