Plewe claims Skyhawks second-ever individual medalist honor at Nick Turner Invitational

10/15/2024 4:57:00 PM

DURANGO, Colo. – In only her fourth tournament as a Skyhawk, Fort Lewis junior Dimery Plewe shot her way to the program's first individual medalist honor since 2015 and the second in program history on the strength of a one-over-par 145 at home at Hillcrest Golf Club up on the rim.

"It was so good to be at home; I felt so supported the whole time, it was amazing what the crew and the pro shop staff did for us out here," Plewe shared following the tournament. "It was one of my goals and one of the tournaments I wanted, and I loved being able to do it here at home."

Plewe joins Durango native Jessica Thulson (2012-16) as the only Skyhawks women's golfers to win a tournament as an individual.

"I'm incredibly proud of her, she's worked her tail off," head coach Shea Sena added. "She was on her mission for two years, and to be able to come back and get back into competitive golf over the course of summer, and all we've seen is great things continue to happen throughout the fall season."

After sitting at two strokes above par on her first trip around the course, Plewe bounced back with five birdies, including four on the back nine, to finish one stroke below par en route to her first collegiate medalist honor.

As a unit, Fort Lewis captured third overall on a four-player team score of 632 (+56) to finish just behind New Mexico Junior College's 626 (+50) while Lubbock Christian jumped both teams to claim team medalist honors on a 625 (+49).

Freshman Peyton Gibby and senior Vivianna Holguin were the next Skyhawks up on the leaderboards as the duo went nine and eleven strokes above par in round two, respectively, to reach identical totals of 160 (+16) for the tournament. Sarah Grenemyer supplied the final 85 (+13) to the team's score and ultimately took home a tie for 32nd with a 176 (+32) total.

Isabel Bustillos, Fort Lewis' fourth scoring contributor in round one, finished the two-day tournament in a tie for 22nd after the sophomore carded back-to-back rounds of 82 and 85 for a 167 (+23). Sabrina Ladd, who competed as an unattached individual, took a tie for 20th with a 22-over 166.

Rounding out the Skyhawks finishes was Annika Gutierrez and Elina Beyer who captured 36th and 37th with tournament scores of 185 (+41) and 197 (+53), respectively.

See You Next Spring
Fort Lewis will now head indoors for the winter before returning in the spring of 2025 to return for the championship segment of its 2024-25 season.
