Skyhawks tested through first round at Palm Valley

4/3/2026 7:38:00 PM

GOODYEAR, Ariz. – The Fort Lewis women's golf team will have plenty of ground to make up tomorrow morning, as early round struggles sank the Skyhawks into T-20 positioning on the back of a 312 (+24) team score in the opening round of the Ruidoso Junior Golf Association Palm Valley Classic.

The 6,045-yard, par-72 combination of the North and South Courses at Palm Valley Golf Club tested the field with no team, and only six of the 142 golfers, shooting under par on Friday afternoon. Ellie White and Isabel Bustillos were the closest Skyhawks to par, with White, the freshman from Durango, Colo., carding a three-over 75 (+3) with a pair of birdies on the front nine to reside in T-38. Bustillos, a junior veteran out of Roswell, N.M., finished one stroke back on a 76 (+4) with a birdie each on the front and back nines to sit T-51.

As a unit, Fort Lewis capped the afternoon in T-20 alongside Western Washington University and Saint Martin's University, with all three squads scoring a 24-over 312. The Skyhawks sit a narrow eight strokes behind 13th-place Lubbock Christian University's 304 (+16) as well as the top half of the 27-team field. FLC is 13 strokes back from No. 49 Angelo State University and the top 10.

Colorado State University Pueblo, ranked No. 31 nationally on SCOREBOARD, leads the tournament at 291 (+3) overall and is one stroke ahead of No. 14 Cal State University San Marcos and No. 30 West Texas A&M University in T-2 on scores of 292 (+4). Meanwhile, on the individual leaderboard, it's Cal State University Los Angeles' Daniela Andrade and Colorado Christian University's Kendall Simms who sit T-1 after a pair of four-under 68s.

Next up on the scorecard for Fort Lewis is senior Dimery Plewe, who shot an 80 (+8) and recorded just a single birdie and 10 pars to sit T-103. Sophomore Peyton Gibby is one stroke back from Plewe in T-114 after scoring an 81 (+9), and junior Sarah Grenemyer is another stroke behind in T-122 after shooting an 82 (+10).
