Jones tallies 1,000th career point as Skyhawks eclipse century mark in second bout with Grizzlies

Fort Lewis downs Grizzlies for the second time this season; fourth time on the road in as many years

ALAMOSA, Colo. – An explosive second half paired with pinpoint three-point shooting and a balanced scoring effort led to six Skyhawks finishing in double figures as the Fort Lewis men's basketball team rolled past Adams State 101-83 on the road in Plachy Hall on a night that saw Jhei-R Jones record his 1,000th career point and become the fourth active Skyhawk to eclipse the millennium mark in career scoring.

Fort Lewis captures its ninth consecutive win to climb to 21-2 overall and 16-1 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play. The Skyhawks are now 27-2 on the road over the past two and a half seasons. Adams State, still in contention for a playoff spot in the RMAC Tournament, drops to 8-15 overall and 6-11 in league play.

Offensive production was on full display as the Skyhawks, who out-shot the Grizzlies 50.0 percent (37-74) to 42.9 percent (30-70) from the floor and 52.0 percent (13-25) – the second most threes in a single game this year – to 37.9 percent (11-29) from the deep, also dominated with 21 points off of turnovers, 17 second-chance points all while providing 42 points off the bench.

While Adams State led it 5-2 in the early minutes on back-to-back buckets from John Harge and Isaiah Sampson, the home squad could only manage to keep pace enough to force a 44-44 tie at the 1:39 mark in the opening half before Fort Lewis' high-octane offense and stingy defense kicked it into gear.

Out of the half, FLC limited ASU to a single field goal through the first five minutes allowing the Skyhawks to run out to a 20-point lead before Alex Hurr drained a three-pointer to snap the scoreless streak. Fort Lewis ran its lead out to as many as 21 points on multiple occasions and last on free throws from Junior Garbrah, before holding its lead over the Grizzlies to as few as 11 points the rest of the way.

Jones was exceptional in his 1,000-point outing, finishing his night 4-5 from beyond the arc with a trio of free-throws to match Garbrah for a team-high 15 points while recording team-highs in rebounds with nine and assists with five. Obi Agbim added 14 points, Brayden Carter 13 more, and Samier Kinsler and Isaiah Thompson each another 10 to round out the Skyhawks in double figures.

Austin Fadal led all players with a 19-point, 10-rebound double-double while also recording six assists. Sampson registered 17 points while Kolby Walker and Luke Williams produced 11 points each as four Grizzlies finished in double figures.

Quotable
"I thought tonight we made a really good effort to share the ball across the floor. We really showed up as a team, especially in a rivalry environment, with six guys scoring double figures. When we show up like we did tonight, when we have that type of balance and distribution, we're a really tough team." – Head Coach Bob Pietrack
