Fort Lewis improves through final round of Midwestern State Invitational

WICHITA FALLS, Texas – After improving by 15 strokes against windy conditions through the final round, the Fort Lewis men's golf team sealed a 16th-place finish at the Midwestern State Invitational at Wichita Falls Country Club. Ronald Kildall III led the Skyhawks on the individual side, wrapping up his third round on Tuesday and scoring 19 strokes over par for 232 (76,79, 77).
 
Dallas Baptist University inched its way to the top, surpassing Odessa College by a single stroke to capture the overall team title. DBU put up a team score of 877 (+25) to edge Odessa's 878 (+26). Fort Lewis College finished 81 strokes above par, totaling a 933 (316, 316, 301) to outpace Regis by eleven strokes (944, +92).
 
Adam Bresnu from Odessa College and Wyatt Provence from West Texas A&M battled to a tie for first place resulting in a three-hole playoff. While Bresnu and Provence carded identical 211s (-1) for the tournament, it was Bresnu who came out on top after the playoff to capture the individual title.
 
Jake Chesler led the blue-and-gold for the day, draining four birdies and eight pars, for a 2-over-par round (73). Jordan Jennings trailed one stroke behind Chesler, carding in a 74 (+3). It was Kildall III, however, who maintained his lead among Skyhawks as he finished the final 18 holes with 13 pars, a quartet of bogeys, and a double bogey on the back nine.
 
Next Up
Fort Lewis has a busy week ahead as they take on both the Hot Dirt Desert Shootout and Ruidoso Junior Golf Association Palm Valley Classic in Goodyear, Arizona, from this Friday through Tuesday. The men will open the week with the Hot Dirt Desert Shootout, hosted by Colorado School of Mines, at the Golf Club of Estrella on Friday and Saturday, Apr. 5-6th.
