Women's lacrosse returns to the road with games against UCCS and No. 9 Regis

DURANGO, Colo. – Skyhawks women's lacrosse continues its tear this week, playing games against UCCS and No. 9 Regis University in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action.

Last Time Out
Fort Lewis has been busy as of late, playing four games game in the last week to bring the overall record to 1-5. The Skyhawks picked up their first win of the season against Southern Wesleyan University by a 25-3 final score. The 25 goals scored match a program record, and the three goals allowed were the fewest since the 2022 season.

The Skyhawks outshot the Warriors 43-12, including a 38-7 edge in shots on goal. The Fort Lewis defense was pesky throughout the contest, forcing 32 turnovers and holding Southern Wesleyan 9-of-18 on clears. Fort Lewis racked up 39 ground balls, 17 draws, and went 5-of-6 on free-position shots.

Four players earned hat tricks in the win, including seniors Caprietta Abbadessa and Haley Dostie, junior Mikki Brown, and sophomore Zoi Delgado. Freshmen Kayleigh Bauroth, Avaree Carmine, Sierra Lund, and Victoria Barletta each scored their first career goals. Redshirt sophomore Valerie Garcia and Dostie led all players with three assists each. Senior Ellie Martinez was active on the defensive side of the ball with a career-high six caused turnovers (second in single-game program history) to go along with five ground balls. Junior Caley Lay earned the win between the pipes, playing 33 minutes and grabbing two saves.

The team returned home for a rare Monday matchup against Westminster this week, ultimately falling by a final score of 13-7. Westminster finished with an edge in shots (32-23) and shots on goal (22-15). Fort Lewis committed 29 turnovers compared to 24 for Westminster. The teams each successfully cleared 19 times and combined for 48 ground balls.
Scouting UCCS

The Mountain Lions are 2-4 on the year and 0-1 in conference play following a 19-9 loss to Regis on Sunday. UCCS has totaled 67 goals, 145 ground balls, 33 caused turnovers, and owns a clear percentage of 80.6. They allow 35.2 shots per game from their opponents and a shots on goal percentage of 79.6.

Individually, Julia Patrick leads the team with 19 goals and four assists. Sarah Urbanic and Emma Grace Martin follow with 12 and 10 goals, respectively. Four players have double-digit draws so far, including Erica Rivera who has 12 draws and 13 ground balls. Goalkeeper Madison McGriff has started all six games and has a saves percentage of 48.7. She also leads the team with 25 ground balls.

Fort Lewis is 2-7 all-time against UCCS, losing the last seven meetings. Last season, the Skyhawks fell 16-10 at home and 13-9 on the road to close out the season.

Scouting No. 9 Regis University
 The Rangers are 7-1 overall and 1-0 in conference play to start the year. Regis has been ranked in every poll this season and sits at No. 9 in the March 25 version of the IWLCA Division II poll. Regis averages 16.6 goals per game and 31.3 shots per game. They hold their opponents to 10.7 goals per game and a shots on goal percentage of 71.4. The Rangers have accumulated 164 ground balls, 152 draws, and 85 caused turnovers.

Individually, the Rangers have double-digit goals from six players. Bailey Treux leads the way with 23 goals while Shea Murphy is the points leader with 22 goals and eight assists. Megan Bunker is a do-it-all player for Regis, boasting 71 draws, 20 ground balls, and 12 caused turnovers. Elizabeth Myotte has been the primary goalkeeper this season and owns a 9.73 goals-against average with 44 saves.

Fort Lewis is 0-30 all-time against Regis, dropping the meetings last season by finals of 19-5 and 18-2.

Fort Lewis (1-5, 0-2 RMAC) is back home next week with a lone game against CSU Pueblo. The Saturday afternoon game will be the annual Nike N7 game, honoring Native American Heritage, as well as National Student-Athlete Day.
