No. 2 Skyhawks to host seventh-seeded ThunderWolves for RMAC Tournament Quarterfinals

DURANGO, Colo. – After matching and setting program records with a 25-3 mark through regular season contests and a 20-2 mark in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play, respectively, the No. 2-ranked Fort Lewis men's basketball team has earned the second seed and the rights to host seventh-seeded CSU Pueblo (14-14, 10-12 RMAC) for the quarterfinal round of the conference tournament this Tuesday, Mar. 5, at 6:00 p.m. inside Whalen Gymnasium.

Ticketing Info
All patrons, including members of the Skyhawks Club, are required to purchase an admission ticket through the RMAC Ticketing site HERE. Members of the Skyhawks Club may still use their VIP passes to access hospitality, however, they are required to purchase an admission ticket for all postseason events.
 
Tournament Field
No. 6-ranked Colorado Mesa (25-3, 21-1 RMAC) owns the top seed in the tournament and will face off with eighth-seeded Chadron State (12-16, 9-13 RMAC). No. 16-ranked Colorado School of Mines (23-7, 17-5 RMAC) has drawn the third seed and will host sixth-seeded Regis (15-13, 12-10 RMAC). Fourth-seeded Black Hills State (16-12, 14-8 RMAC) will host fifth-seeded MSU Denver (19-9, 13-9 RMAC) at the final quarterfinals site.
 
Key Numbers
Among Division II programs, Fort Lewis ranks seventh in scoring margin (14.0), eighth in bench scoring (37.96), 11th in turnover margin (5.4), 20th in steals (8.8), and 27th in offense (85.7). The Skyhawks are firing off at clips of 48.5 percent from the floor, 38.2 percent from beyond the arc, and 74.8 percent at the free throw line. Off the glass, Fort Lewis is hauling in 37.4 rebounds per game: good for a 4.5 margin over opponents. Obi Agbim leads the offense with 14.1 points per game while Malik Whitaker adds 12.1 and Brayden Carter another 10.3 to round of those with double-digit averages.
 
Third Go-Round
Fort Lewis will face off with CSU Pueblo for the third time this season and the second at home in Whalen Gymnasium. The Skyhawks downed the ThunderWolves on both occasions by scores of 97-64 at home back on Dec. 9, 2023, and 86-68 in Pueblo, Colo., on Feb. 9. Additionally, FLC has won seven straight games over CSUP to lead the all-time series 58-49 including 36-15 at home.
 
The Pack have won back-to-back games on the road over UCCS (12-16, 8-14 RMAC) and Regis by scores of 92-69 and 77-75, respectively, and have also earned wins in five of their last six games. Ranking fifth in offense (79.0) and ninth in defense (75.6) among league opponents, The Pack is shooting 46.0 percent as a unit from the floor while also hauling in 34.1 rebounds per game.
 
Senior Brevin Walter, who leads the ThunderWolves averaging 17.0 points per game, is coming off of back-to-back 18-point outings in each of his last two games. Makiah Morris, CSUP's second-leading scorer at 15.3 points per game, led the ThunderWolves with 22 points against UCCS last Friday. Morris also adds 7.0 rebounds and 3.6 assists per game while Armon Muldrew and De'Shaun Cooper are adding 13.9 and 11.0 points per game, respectively, to round members of The Pack to average double-figure scoring.
 
Postseason Outlook
Should Fort Lewis defeat CSU Pueblo, the Skyhawks would then travel to Grand Junction, Colo., and Brownson Arena on the campus of Colorado Mesa for the semifinals and championship rounds of the RMAC Tournament on Friday and Saturday, Mar. 8-9. Should the Skyhawks win, and the top-seeded Mavericks fall, Fort Lewis would then be in line as the highest remaining seed to host the semifinals and championship.
