Women's lacrosse squares off against No. 7 Regis and UCCS in home finale

DURANGO, Colo. – The Fort Lewis College women's lacrosse team will wrap up its regular season at home this week, taking on No. 7 Regis University and UCCS on Ray Dennison Memorial Field.

On Friday, the Skyhawks will play their annual Pride Game versus the Rangers. There will be a bouquet-making station, courtesy of ASFLC, as well as a halftime performance for fans to enjoy. On Sunday, Fort Lewis will honor its five graduating seniors before opening draw. Sunday will also be the team's annual Morgan's Message game in honor of suicide prevention.

Morgan's Message® is a 501(c)(3) that strives to eliminate the stigma surrounding mental health within the student-athlete community and equalize the treatment of physical and mental health in athletics.

Last Time Out
Fort Lewis earned a 13-9 win in its lone contest last week to secure the season sweep over CSU Pueblo. Fort Lewis outshot CSU Pueblo 38-26, including a 26-18 advantage in shots on goal. The Pack committed 29 turnovers and was 22-of-31 on clears. The Skyhawks scored four goals via free positions compared to zero for the Pack.

Junior Mikki Brown led the team with four goals, followed by senior Caprietta Abbadessa who scored three. Sophomore Sydney Tannaci paced the defense with four caused turnovers and three ground balls. Graduate student JoJo Lutz and sophomore Samantha Rodgers followed with three caused turnovers apiece. Seniors Autumn Rymerson and Ellie Martinez each recorded three draws. Junior Caley Lay played 45 minutes between the pipes and came away with eight saves.

Scouting No. 7 Regis
Regis remains the seventh-ranked team in the country following wins over Westminster (23-0) and Colorado Mesa (16-7) last week. The Rangers are 14-1 overall, 8-0 in conference play, and are riding a 10-game winning streak. Regis is averaging 32.4 shots per game with a shots on goal percentage of 80.2. The team has compiled 281 ground balls, 267 draws, 182 caused turnovers, and a clears percentage of 84.4.

Individually, Maggie Schipfer leads the team with 46 goals and 14 assists for 60 points. Bailey Truex follows with 45 goals while Gabby Rothermund leads the way with 30 assists. The team sees offensive production across the board with eight players registering double-digit goals. Megan Bunker has the draw on lock and leads all players with 117 on the year. Defensively, Terah Skillings is the leader with 33 caused turnovers. Seven players have at least 20 ground balls. Elizabeth Myotte is the team's primary goalkeeper and allows just 6.8 goals per game.

Fort Lewis is winless in the series history against Regis and dropped the road matchup in late March by a 17-0 final. It was the second time in the series history that the Skyhawks were blanked.

Scouting UCCS
UCCS is 5-8 on the year and 3-5 in conference play following a weekend split against Colorado Mesa (L, 12-11 OT) and Westminster (W, 10-6). The Mountain Lions average 24.6 shots per game on a shots on goal percentage of 74.4. They have racked up 305 ground balls, 138 draw controls, and 85 caused turnovers.

Julia Patrick leads the way with 37 goals to go along with 10 assists. Brielle Fannin follows with 19 goals, and two players sit at 18 goals this season. Eight players have at least 20 ground balls, including Erica Rivera who is also pacing the squad with 14 caused turnovers. Madison McGriff has started 13 games at goalkeeper and owns a goals against average of 12.13 with 153 saves.

Fort Lewis is 2-8 all-time against UCCS and has lost the last eight meetings. When the teams faced off in late March, the Mountain Lions came away with a 12-8 win.

Pending this weekend's results, the Skyhawks will be looking ahead to the RMAC Tournament which kicks off on Friday, May 3 with the Semifinals.
