2024 Softball RMAC All-Academic Awards

Shanks repeats as First-Team Academic All-Conference, five Skyhawks earn honor roll accolades

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – For the second straight year, right-handed pitcher Amiee Shanks has been named First-Team Academic All-Conference by the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference in addition to five Skyhawks who picked up Academic Honor Roll nods, the league announced on Wednesday.
 
Seniors Cara Daugherty, Hannah Rutherford, and Catheryn Rodman close out their careers as three-time RMAC Academic Honor Roll selections while sophomores Cali Niccum and Sienna Mullin each earned their first Academic Honor Roll awards. First-team honorees must carry a 3.50+ GPA through the most recently completed semester or quarter, have completed at least two consecutive semesters or three consecutive quarters at their active institution, and use a season of competition. Additionally, first-team nominations are voted on by the conference's sports information directors.
 
Shanks, a junior from Tucson, Ariz, and a product of Canyon Del Oro High School joins Missy Fundora (2013-16) and Chelsea Rodriguez (2011-14) as Fort Lewis' only multi-First-Team Academic All-RMAC selections.
 
Named to the 2024 RMAC Gold Glove Team as a pitcher, Shanks took care of business in the circle the season as she compiled a career-high 170.0 innings of work and made 24 starts, all complete games which tied for the second-most in all of NCAA Division II through the regular season, and 31 total appearances. In the classroom, Shanks boasts a 3.933 GPA (Grade Point Average) while focusing her studies on Exercise Physiology.
 
Daugherty, who grew up just down the road in Aztec, N.M., earns her third-consecutive Academic Honor Roll award to pair with her 2023 nod to the CSC Academic All-District Team (College Sports Communicators). Last week, Daugherty graduated with her degree in Environmental Studies with a 3.863 GPA. Starting a majority of last season at first base for the FLC, Daugherty provided a .326 BA (Batting Average), 42 hits, 21 runs scored, and 17 RBIs (Runs Batted In).
 
Rutherford, a graduating veteran who has been with the program since 2021, notched her third Academic Honor Roll award to help cap her career as a Skyhawk. In 2024, Rutherford bounced back with authority to start 45 games in the outfield and add to Fort Lewis' offense with a .283 BA including 16 runs scored, 20 runs batted in, and 36 hits including a career-high seven doubles, two triples, and three home runs. Off the field, Rutherford earned her degree in Public Health with a 3.746 GPA.
 
Rodman rounds out the trio of Fort Lewis seniors after graduating with her degree in Nutrition with a 3.457 GPA. Originally from Tulsa, Okla., and Jenks High School, Rodman has been a pivotal piece of Fort Lewis' lineup since transferring from Northeastern State University ahead of the 2022 campaign. A 2023 CSC Academic All-District Team honoree, Rodman supplied the Skyhawks offense with a .267 average featuring eight doubles, a triple, and a home run among 31 hits for 20 runs scored and 16 RBIs.
 
Niccum, who came to Durango from Yuba City High School in Yuba City, Calif., immediately impacted the Skyhawks after jumping into the lineup in March following her return from an injury. While owning a 3.950 GPA and studying Criminology & Justice Studies, Niccum still made 21 starts in 23 appearances owning one of three perfect fielding percentages (1.000) for FLC. At the plate, Niccum posted a .279 BA with a pair of doubles and a home run for four runs scored and eight RBIs.
 
Mullin, a Colorado native out of Riverdale Ridge High School and Brighton, Colo., notches her first academic accolade after boasting a perfect 4.00 GPA while studying Engineering. As an outfielder, Mullin made 15 starts for the Skyhawks and supplied a pair of hits and runs scored alongside a trio of sacrifice hits for Fort Lewis this season. In the outfield, Mullin owned a .962 fielding percentage.
 
Colorado Mesa's redshirt junior catcher and utility player Ally Distler has been named the 2024 RMAC Academic Player of the Year and boasts a 4.00 GPA in Psychology.
