Heck does it again, earns First Team All-American honors in 1500m

EMPORIA, Kan. – Senior Katie Heck has closed out her eminent Fort Lewis College career with First Team All-American honors in the 1500m at the 2024 NCAA DII Championships after placing eighth, bringing her career All-American total to four in the blue and gold.

1500m Finals
Heck was the leader immediately after the starting gun sounded and remained in the lead pack after clocking a time of 54.49 through 300m. She stayed with the pair at the front through 700m, logging a 73 second split to keep with runners from Winona State and Adams State. She dropped one spot as the pace picked up at 1100m despite a strong 69 second split, trailing a pair of Adams State competitors and the Winona State leader. The bell lap saw a group make its move into the final sprint, and Hyde from Adams State crossed the line first. Heck battled amongst a group fighting for a podium finish and came away with an eighth-place finish and a time of 4:26.81. Heck's First Team All-American honor is the fourth of her career as she closes out her distinguished tenure as a Skyhawk.

Looking Back
Skyhawks outdoor track had a historic season in 2024, earning All-Conference honors in multiple disciplines and sending two student-athletes to the National Championships. Joining Heck with First Team All-American honors was junior Hannah Hartwell who burst onto the scene in the 10000m in her first season with Fort Lewis. The future is bright for the track squad as the coaches continue to expand the roster and maintain a standard of excellence.
