Holguin takes eighth, Skyhawks ninth at Swan Memorial

BROOMFIELD, Colo. – The Fort Lewis women's golf team captured a ninth-place finish as a team behind Vivianna Holguin's tie for eighth as an individual in the Skyhawks first appearance of the season at the Swan Memorial up at The Broadlands Golf Course.  
 
The Skyhawks dropped a pair of shots through the second round to shoot a combined 634 with single-round scores of 316 and 318 to finish 58 strokes above par and secure a ninth-place finish. Bellevue held its lead in seventh but wound up tying with Colorado Mesa as both squads finished 52 strokes over par with 628 team totals.  
 
CSU Pueblo ran away from Cal State Los Angeles (591, +15) to capture the overall team title with a combined score of 582 (+6). The Pack's Alyssa McMillen finished one-over-par through her second round, but it was Angelo State's Johanna Ohrling, who shot an even 72 in round one, who went three-under through round two to win the individual championship on a 141 (-3) total.
 
After finishing two-under through the first round, Holguin came back and carded a six-over 78 in round two to finish four strokes above par and finish in a tie for eighth place to notch her first career top-ten finish at the NCAA Division II level.  
 
Isabel Bustillos ended the tournament in 41st on a 160 (+16) followed by Dimery Plewe in 45th on a 161 (+17), Peyton Gibby in 54th on a 165 (+21), and Sarah Grenemyer in 63rd on a 170 (+26).
 
Heading to the Desert
Next up for the Skyhawks is the Ruidoso Junior Golf Association Shootout at Estrella at the Golf Club of Estrella over in Goodyear, Arizona. Fort Lewis will be in action on Monday and Tuesday, Sep. 16-17.
