GOODYEAR, Ariz. – The Fort Lewis women's golf team concluded its trip to the Arizona desert on Tuesday afternoon as the squad took home 15th place at the Ruidoso Junior Golf Association's Shootout at Estrella.

Taking place at the Golf Club of Estrella, the Skyhawks and competition faced scorching heats and gusty desert winds on a challenging course that stretched 6,005 yards for a par of 72.

Fort Lewis doubled up its first-round score of 320 to finish with a team total of 640 and sit 64 strokes above par. After sitting a single stroke behind a pack of four schools that tied for first through the opening round, Colorado Christian pulled away from the group and captured the overall time title with a two-stroke lead on a 610 total (+34).

Most notably, it was CCU's Raya Schulz, who ended round one in a tie for 12th with a three-over 75, who wound up pulling it all the way back and shooting three-under in her second trip through the course to win the overall individual title as the only player in the tournament to finish par or better with a 144 (E).

Sarah Grenemyer, Fort Lewis' leader in the tournament, dropped into a tie for 22nd after the second round. Grenemyer finished ten-over for the event with a 154 total. Vivianna Holguin climbed 15 spots to finish in a tie for 43rd on a 160 (+16) total, while Dimery Plewe dropped seven positions into a tie for 54th with a 162 (+18) for the tournament.

Rounding out the remainder of the Skyhawks is Peyton Gibby in a tie for 62nd with a 20-over 164 followed by Isabel Bustillos' tie-67th on a 166 (+22), and Annika Gutierrez, who competed as an unattached individual, in 82nd with a 180 (+36).

Looking Ahead
Three weeks of rest and preparation await the Skyhawks as Fort Lewis will not return to action until taking on the Farmers Insurance Sam Proal Invitational over at the Pueblo Country Club on Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 7-8.
