Women's soccer earned seventh shutout in 2-0 win over Adams State

DURANGO, Colo. – With its third-straight shutout and seventh of the season, the Fort Lewis College women's soccer team picked up a 2-0 win over Adams State University in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) play on Sunday.

The win improved the Skyhawks' record to 6-4-1 overall and 3-2 in league play while the Grizzlies dropped to 6-3-2 overall and 2-2-1 RMAC. Fort Lewis boasts a 5-0-1 record on Dirks Field to match its home win total from the 2023 season.

Senior Anna Tucker picked up the game winning goal, her third goal of the weekend and fourth of the season, on an assist from senior Renee Junna. Junior Jenna Salazar added the brace for her seventh goal of the season and fourth of the weekend thanks to an assist from fifth year Danielle Gonzales. Freshman goalkeeper Trinity Lujan collected three saves in the shutout, bringing her season goals against average to .58.

The Skyhawks owned a 19-8 edge in shots for the match, including a 7-3 advantage in shots on goal. Fort Lewis earned six corner kicks and did not allow any for Adams State—the second consecutive match where the defense has not given up a set piece. The teams played a clean contest with just seven total fouls and no cards awarded.

The first half opened with two booming shots from senior Abigail Nkrumah and Salazar to set the tone. Tucker found the eventual game winner in the ninth minute when a long pass from Junna met her feet 25 yards out. The senior fired a shot high right for her fourth goal of the season. Lujan made her first save in the 26th minute and ended the half with her second in the 41st minute to hold the 1-0 lead.

Salazar set the tone early in the second half after an accurate pass from Gonzales put her in favorable position in the box. The junior continued her scoring prowess and placed a shot outside of the keeper's reach to make it 2-0. The Grizzlies made one more quality attempt in the 79th minute when a one-on-one scenario unfolded inside the box. Lujan made a veteran save and pounced on the deflection to preserve her seventh shutout of her young career. Fort Lewis tacked on two more shots down the stretch before running the clock out on a 2-0 victory.

Fort Lewis (6-4-1, 3-2 RMAC) is on the road next week with a lone matchup against CSU Pueblo (3-4-4, 2-1-2 RMAC) on Thursday, October 16 at 4:00 PM.
