Andreottola, Fila earn braces to fuel No. 13 Skyhawks 5-0 shutout over Cougars

Andreottola notches first career brace

LAKEWOOD, Colo. – After over 24 days and 20 hours, the No. 13 nationally ranked Fort Lewis men's soccer team finally concluded its previously suspended match with Colorado Christian University over at Trailblazer Stadium, with the Skyhawks earning a 5-0 clean sheet over the Cougars.

With the win, Fort Lewis climbed to 7-3-4 overall and 3-2-2 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play, while Colorado Christian fell to 2-10-3 overall and 2-3-2 in conference action. The Skyhawks fired off 22 shots to the Cougars' six, with a 17-to-2 edge in shots on goal. CCU's Campbell Wolfgram tallied 11 saves. Lucas Martin made just two saves.

The match kicked off after roughly 8 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 3, after the Fort Lewis women's soccer match against Colorado Mesa University was canceled due to lightning and inclement weather. While the men kicked off shortly thereafter, a lightning delay put the match on hold until shortly after 10 p.m., and with no safe restart opportunity in sight, the match was suspended.

Fort Lewis had taken a 3-0 lead before the suspension, thanks to an early score in the 11th minute by Alessio Andreottola. Casey Stracher had driven down the far side of the pitch before sending service into the box from 40 yards out. Thankfully, Andreottola was able to edge his defender near the crease, elevating for a mid-air strike into the back-left corner of the net. Stracher was credited with his second assist of the season.

Andreottola went on to secure his first career brace in the 48th minute, kicking off a trio of touch-and-gos from the far side toward the box between Lorenz Guintini and Francisco Pinto before firing a one-touch missile from just outside of the box to the top-left corner. The score gave Guintini his second career assist, and Pinto his fourth. Yohann Fila would tack on the final goal before the match was suspended, jumping a clearing attempt by the Cougars' defense inside the box to redirect the ball back inside the right post.

Fila picked up right where he left off tonight, scoring his second goal and earning the second brace of his career in the 75th minute. After dispossessing a defender 30 yards out, Fila darted down the far side into the box before tucking a low shot between the goalkeeper and the left post. Fila would earn an assist en route to a career-high five points in the 85th minute, thanks to a rifled shot that was deflected by the goalkeeper and back outside of the box. Fabrizio Aguilera collected the loose ball and, similarly to Fila, sent a low-bouncing shot from the top of the box inside the left post.
