Skyhawks post come-from-behind win over Mustangs, 85-82

Golesis scores game-high 23 points

PORTALES, N.M. – Yorgio Golesis went for a game-high 23 points and Chuol Deng added an 18-point, 10-rebound double-double to lead the Skyhawks to a 2-0 start to its 2025 campaign as Fort Lewis overcame Western New Mexico University 85-82 in the final minute on Saturday night.

Despite trailing by eight points on several occasions and another 18 lead changes, the Skyhawks stuck to the game plan, this time dominating the glass and commanding the paint with 42 points in the post and a dominant 45-29 edge in rebounding over the Mustangs (1-1), who suffered their first setback of the season. Western New Mexico knocked down 12 treys to Fort Lewis' six and even won at the charity stripe, converting at a 70 percent (14-20) rate, but FLC had nearly double the attempts, going 25-39 (64.1 percent) at the line.

Deng played a strong role down low, with an even five rebounds on both ends of the floor while adding an assist and a steal. Golesis, on the other hand, looked to solidify his role in the lineup, going 7-for-9 from the floor and 9-for-10 at the free-throw line, including knocking down his final three attempts to solidify the win, while also grabbing six rebounds and handing out a team-high six assists.

Donald Bangham, Jr. poured in another 16 points and on 5-of-9 shooting with a pair of three-pointers in his pocket, with Massal Diouf pouring in another 14 points on 6-of-10 shooting to round out the Skyhawks in double figures.

Four Mustangs finished in double figures, including Carson Kelly with 21 points, Cortaviaus Seales with 17 points, Keylon Dorsey with 16, and Isaiah Broady with the final 11 points. Broady led WNMU in rebounds with seven, and Seales handed out a game-high eight assists.
