Women's basketball welcomes St. Edward's for Tuesday matinee

DURANGO, Colo. – Skyhawks women's basketball brings its unbeaten record to Whalen Gymnasium on Tuesday when they face off against St. Edward's University for a noon tip-off.

Admission to Tuesday's game will be free for EVERYONE!

Last Time Out
What a fruitful weekend it was for Fort Lewis, earning two wins over Lone Star Conference opponents on the road. First, the Skyhawks notched an 83-57 win over Western New Mexico in a game that featured points from 11 Fort Lewis players.

Not only did the group pour in 11 threes, but they did it efficiently with a 50 percent hit rate which would rank second in 28 games last season. Fort Lewis shot 50 percent from the field (34-of-68) while totaling 41 rebounds, 17 steals, and 14 assists. WNMU shot 37.9 percent from the field (22-of-58) and just 39 percent at the charity stripe (9-of-23). The Mustangs compiled 31 rebounds and committed 23 turnovers.

Freshman Savanna Dotray and sophomore Claudia Palacio Gámez led the team with 10 points apiece, followed by senior Ashten Martinez and freshman Josie Davis with nine points each. From there, three players scored eight points, one scored seven, and two scored six.

On Saturday, Fort Lewis poured in 16 three pointers, the third best mark in program history, to pick up a 94-82 win over Cameron University. As team, Fort Lewis shot 41.4 percent (29-of-70) from the field and 41 percent (16-of-39) from three. The Skyhawks added 20 points from the free throw line to go along with 38 rebounds, 13 assists, and 10 steals. Cameron shot 46.9 percent (23-of-49) from the field, adding 13 three pointers and 23 free throws.

Junior Makaya Porter's 23 points led the team, and she took away six rebounds to tie for the team lead. Junior Makaya Porter put up 15 points, followed by freshman Josie Davis with 14 points and a team-best four assists. Sophomore Katie Lamb added 12 points thanks to four made threes.

Inside the Numbers
Fort Lewis has four players averaging double-digit points through two games, led by Porter at 14.5. Freshman Josie Davis and junior Malia Ulery follow at 11.5, and sophomore Katie Lamb sits at 10 per game. Freshman Alemaualii Fonoti and junior Sarah Chick are tied for the team lead with six rebounds per game, and Porter and Davis both average 5.5. Sophomore Claudia Palacio Gámez is averaging three assists per game with just one turnover to her name. Davis follows at 2.5 steals with a team-high 1.5 blocks per game.

Scouting St. Edward's
The Hilltoppers sit at 1-1 with a loss to Black Hills State (73-42) and win over South Dakota Mines (85-79) last week. St. Edward's was 11-20 last season with a 7-15 record in Lone Star Conference play.

The team is averaging 63.5 points per game while slashing .385/.344/.762. They are coming away with 24.5 rebounds per game compared to 42 for their opponents (-17.5). The Hilltoppers are +4.5 in turnovers and come away with 11 steals per game.

Suni Davis leads the team with 21 points per game on .519 shooting. Jasmyn Jackson follows with 9.5 points per game and a team-best 5.5 rebounds per game. Ramsey Robledo leads the way by averaging three steals and 1.5 assists per game.
