No. 25 Chaparrals race past Skyhawks, 94-76

Fort Lewis falls to an even 2-2

DURANGO, Colo. – The sharp-shooting and No. 25-ranked Chaparrals stood up to their preseason national ranking Saturday night in Whalen Gymnasium, handing the Skyhawks their second consecutive loss at home, 94-76, to close out the 2025 Skyhawks Hardwood Classic.

Lubbock Christian (6-0) was unstoppable from beyond the arc, firing off at a 20-of-36 clip (55.6 percent) from beyond the arc, knocking down the third-most treys in a game in Division II this season. The Chaparrals were also an effective 33-of-65 (50.8 percent) from the field with a season-high 27 assists.  Fort Lewis (2-2) kept pace, shooting 49.1 percent (28-57) from the field and 81.3 percent (13-16) at the free-throw line, but managed just seven three-pointers in 16 attempts (43.8 percent).

Fort Lewis trailed by as many as 10 points in the opening half, but managed to pull back within seven heading into the locker room. The Skyhawks then caught fire in the second half, even taking a 61-58 lead on a layup from Yorgio Golesis, who finished with eight points and three assists, but Lubbock Christian quickly jumped back in front, knocking down a quarter of treys to pull back ahead by as many as 16 points en route to the comfortable victory.

Former Skyhawk Amondo Miller, Jr., enjoyed the comforts of his old gym, going off for a 29-point, 10-rebound double-double on 10-of-18 shooting and an 8-of-11 mark from beyond the arc, while adding five assists, two blocks, and two steals. Miller Jr. was one of five Chaps to score in double-figures, aided by 15 points from Kendall Dow, 13 points from Antonio Pusateri, and 12 points each from Lucas Mercandino and Alex Anamekwe.

Donald Bangham, Jr. led the Skyhawks in scoring, putting up 14 points in his third-straight double-digit scoring effort. Chuol Deng finished closely behind with 13 points, nine rebounds, three assists, a block, and a steal. Massal Diouf added the final 12 points as the only other Skyhawk in double-figures. Four Skyhawks finished with eight points.
