DURANGO, Colo. – Fort Lewis men's basketball (2-2) will look to get back on track at the West Texas A&M Thanksgiving Classic this Friday and Saturday, with the Skyhawks taking on a pair of in-region Lone Star Conference opponents in Angelo State University (6-1) and No. 15 nationally ranked West Texas A&M University (5-0) at the First United Bank Center.
 
Early Results
Fort Lewis heads into the holiday weekend with a 2-2 overall record, first defeating Eastern New Mexico University (3-1), 76-73, in the season-opener, and Western New Mexico University (4-1), 85-82, the following night in Portales, N.M. Last weekend, in the Skyhawks' 2025-26 home opener and Skyhawks Hardwood Classic, the Mustangs got revenge with a 95-86 win before now No. 5-ranked Lubbock Christian University (6-0) upended Fort Lewis, 94-76.

Three different Skyhawks have gone for 20 or more points in a game and displayed the ability to score at a high rate. In the season-opener, Jaxon Smith burst onto the scene with a career-high 28 points on 9-of-15 shooting with a lethal 7-of-11 mark from the three-point line. The following night, Yorgio Golesis went for 23 points, dominating the lane for a 7-of-9 effort from the field and a near-perfect 9-of-10 night at the free throw line. Last Friday, Chuol Deng notched his first 20-point outing of the year, scoring 24 points while finishing with nine rebounds, two blocks, and a steal. Thus far, Fort Lewis has shot an efficient 45.8 percent from the field and 40.0 percent from deep, even outrebounding opponents by a +2.8 margin; however, the Skyhawks are turning the ball over at an average of 15.8 per game and trail in rebound margin, -1.3.

Rumbling Rams
Angelo State reeled off five-straight wins to kick off the season before Sul Ross State University (2-3) handed the Rams a 60-47 loss on the Lobos' home court. ASU then bounced back with a 70-54 win over Texas A&M International University (1-3) on Monday night.
 
Heading into the weekend, Angelo State boasts the Lone Star's 14th-best offense at 72.3 points per game on 42.9 percent shooting; however, the Rams have held opponents to 63.3 points per game and a +9.0-scoring margin, marks that rank second and ninth in the LSC. Opponents are shooting just 38.7 percent from the floor against ASU, but have hung tough with just a +1.4-rebound margin.

Buffs on the Charge
West Texas A&M is a perfect 5-0 to start the season, and more dangerously, a red-hot 3-0 at home in First United Bank Center. The Buffaloes first swept the D2CCA Tipoff Classic before besting Chadron State College (1-4) 98-76 and 118-83, and most recently, defeating University of Central Oklahoma (5-3), 81-70.
 
The Buffaloes boast the 18th-highest offense in the country, averaging 92.0 points per game on 47.2 percent shooting, dominating opponents for a +17.2-scoring margin. While opponents have competed off the glass and trailed by an average of just one rebound per contest, WTAMU has dominated defensively with a +7.4-turnover margin for an average of 22.4 points off turnovers. In addition, five Buffs are averaging double-digit scoring through the first six games of the year.
