Skyhawks shake off dust in California

ALAMEDA, Calif. – The Fort Lewis women's golf team began its spring championship season on Monday afternoon, competing in the first of two rounds at the Tim Tierney Pioneer Shootout at the Corica Park Golf Course.
 
The challenging field of 19 teams features six teams ranked inside of the top 50 in Division II, including tournament host and No. 46 Cal State East Bay, No. 43 Biola, No. 41 CSU Pueblo, No. 32 Cal State Los Angeles, No. 24 Simon Fraser, and No. 9 Cal State San Marcos. Fans can catch all of the action from round two live on FloCollege ($) with a paid monthly subscription.
 
Cal State East Bay and Biola reside in a tie for first, with both teams finishing three strokes above par with a pair of 291s. Cal State Los Angeles and Cal State San Marcos reside one and three strokes back from the lead, respectively. Fort Lewis found itself in a tie for 16th with Dominican (Calif.) after shooting a 325 (+37) in its opening round. The Skyhawks are just three and one stroke back from 14th-place Chico State and 15th-place Point Loma. In addition, FLC chases a top-ten finish by 17 strokes.
 
Six individuals finished below par in the first round, including Cal State East Bay's Carlota Eroles and Cal State San Marcos' Madison Murr who led the field with a pair of 68s (-4). Freshman Peyton Gibby and sophomore Sarah Grenemyer paced the Skyhawks in round one, both carding an 80 to finish eight strokes over par. Grenemyer edged Gibby three birdies to two, and the duo resides in a ten-way split for 60th.
 
Sophomore Isabel Bustillos resides one stroke back and in a tie for 70th with an 81 (+9), followed by redshirt junior Dimery Plewe and senior Vivianna Holguin, who shot an identical 84 (+12) to sit in a ten-way tie for 80th.
 
 The Skyhawks will play one final round tomorrow morning, Tuesday, Feb. 25.
