Indoor track sends 14 to compete at RMAC Championships

DURANGO, Colo. – The postseason has arrived for the Skyhawks indoor track and field squads as the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Championships begin on Friday at the Mountain Lion Field House in Colorado Springs.

What to Look For
The Skyhawks will have athletes competing in the 60m, 200m, 400m, 800m, mile, 3000m, 5000m, 4x400m, and the distance medley.

Men's Events
60m: Sophomore Zachary Gaumont will be one to watch in the 60m on Friday at 1:50 p.m. He enters the race with a seed time of 6.82, which ranks second in the conference, broke a school record, and is good for an NCAA Provisional mark. The RMAC meet record of 6.65 was set by Jurgen Themen in 2016.

200m: Gaumont is also a highlight performer in the 200m and enters Friday's race with a seed time of 21.92. He competes in heat five of the prelims and ranks eighth in the conference. Freshman Orlando Guevara races in heat one with a seed time of 22.23. The RMAC meet record of 21.40 was set in 2019 by Ian Kerr.

800m: Three will toe the line in the 800m on Saturday at 1:40 p.m. Senior Aaron Busche leads the Skyhawks and ranks ninth in the RMAC with a seed time of 1:53.10. Freshman Payton Whitehead follows by ranking 10th in the conference at 1:53.24. Junior Brady Burrough follows with a time of 1:53.43 to rank 13th in the league. The RMAC meet record of 1:51.77 was set by Andrew Graham in 2012.

Mile: Fort Lewis has two athletes racing in the mile on Saturday at 12:45 p.m. Junior Caden Resendez will compete in section one with a seed time of 4:17.39, and freshman Brody Hubbard will race in section two with a seed time of 4:09.02. The RMAC meet record of 4:07.95 was set by Alec Baldwin in 2016.

5000m: Junior Caden Resendez is set to compete in the 5k with a seed time of 14:31.64. He will race in section one of the event where his time ranks him fifth. The race begins at 3:10 p.m. on Friday. The RMAC meet record of 14:16.37 was set by Loic Scomparin in 2024.

4x400m: The Skyhawks are one of 12 schools competing in the 4x400m relay. The group of Orlando Guevara, Zachary Gaumont, Payton Whitehead, and Brady Burrough will race in section one with a seed time of 3:26.74—good for fifth in the conference.

Distance Medley: Fort Lewis is one of 11 schools competing in the distance medley on Friday at 5:45 p.m. The group of Brody Hubbard, Payton Whitehead, Aaron Busche, and Brady Burrough will compete as a team with a seed time of 10:05.97. Below is a breakdown of the distance medley relay (DMR). The RMAC record of 9:53.09 was set by Adams State in 2007.
  • First Leg – 1200m
  • Second Leg – 400m
  • Third Leg – 800m
  • Fourth Leg – 1600m
 
Women's Events
200m: Freshman Addisyn Leeds makes her RMAC Championship debut on Friday at 4:50 p.m. in the 200m. She will race in heat four with a seed time of 26.05. The RMAC meet record of 23.63 was set by Kandace Thomas in 2019.

400m: Junior Josie Coulter will race in heat three of the prelims on Friday at 2:30 p.m. Her seed time is 59.05. The RMAC meet record of 59.05 was set by Skylyn Webb in 2019.

3000m: Junior Hannah Hartwell races in section two of the 3k race on Saturday at 2:55 p.m. Her seed time of 9:44.62 ranks 13th in the conference and is good for an NCAA Provisional mark. The RMAC record of 9:40.16 was set by Amber Klein in 2003.

4x400m: The Skyhawks relay squad of Josie Coulter, Taylor Rittman, Janaya Mancell, and Claire Peterson will race in section two on Saturday at 3:50 p.m. Fort Lewis ranks eighth with a seed time of 4:02.03 heading into the race.

Distance Medley: Fort Lewis is one of eight schools competing in the distance medley on Friday at 5:45 p.m. The group of Alliyah Molina, Janaya Mancell, Taylor Rittman, and Hannah Hartwell will compete as a team. Below is a breakdown of the distance medley relay (DMR). The RMAC record of 11:42.95 was set by Adams State in 2023.
  • First Leg – 1200m
  • Second Leg – 400m
  • Third Leg – 800m
  • Fourth Leg – 1600m
