Women's lacrosse faces off against Davenport on the road

DURANGO, Colo. – Skyhawks women's lacrosse is gearing up for one neutral site game this week against Davenport University at Colorado Academy in Denver.

Last Time Out
Fort Lewis lost its first two games of the season, first with an 18-7 final against Saint Michael's College. The Purple Knights had a 39-22 shot advantage, including a 30-16 edge in shots on goal. The teams even had 22 turnovers apiece, and Fort Lewis was limited to a 16-of-23 mark in clears. Saint Michael's owned an 18-11 lead in draw controls and both sides went 2-of-8 on free-position shots.

Junior Samantha Rodgers played a complete game with two goals, two ground balls, three caused turnovers, and four draws. Senior Phoebe Ramirez was the team's other multi-goal player with two. Freshman Jasmine Nguyen scored her first career goal while adding two ground balls.  Sophomore Piper Price added one goal and the team's lone assist. Junior Sydney Tannaci tied for the team lead with four draws to go along with two ground balls and a goal. Lay played all but 40 seconds in goal and collected 11 saves.

The Skyhawks lost their next game to Dominican University by a 16-8 final to close out the road trip. The Skyhawks were outshot 34-22 and were outplayed in ground balls (31-27) and draw controls (18-10). Nguyen led the team with three goals, followed by sophomore Victoria Barletta with two.
Junior Sydney Tannaci was a highlight on defense with nine ground balls, six caused turnovers, and two draws. Freshman Maddie Thompson led the team with six draws and netted her first career goal. Senior goalkeeper Caley Lay added 12 saves in the loss.

Scouting Davenport University
The Panthers are 0-2 this season, with a recent loss to UCCS (18-13). Davenport was 6-9 last season, with a 2-5 road record.

This season, the team averages 12 goals per game with a .453 shots percentage. They put up 26.5 shots per game with eight free position goals and eight assists. The Panthers have compiled 40 ground balls, 31 draw controls, eight caused turnovers, and have a clear percentage of .839.

Blakely Malpass leads the way with seven goals and three assists, followed by Theadora Krueger with six goals. Four additional players have at least two goals this season. Brianna Rodriguez is the go-to on draw controls with 14 through two goals. Zoe Cassell has eight ground balls and one caused turnover while starting both games at goalkeeper. She has 13 saves and has faced 46 shots.

Inside the Numbers
The Skyhawks have scored 15 goals and dished out two assists through two games. They are averaging 22 shots per game with a shot percentage of .341. Fort Lewis has netted seven free position goals on 19 chances. They have compiled 44 ground balls, 31 caused turnovers, 21 draw controls, and have a .680 clears percentage.

Jasmine Nguyen leads the team with four goals, followed by four players with two goals apiece. Sydney Tannaci has 11 ground balls, seven caused turnovers, and six draw controls—leading the team in each of those categories. Caley Lay has played all but 46 seconds in goal and has 23 saves while facing 71 shots.
