Skyhawks take fifth place at The Stack Cougar-Burro Collegiate

Fort Lewis lands two inside top 25

GOODYEAR, Ariz. –  The Fort Lewis College men's golf team brought home a fifth-place finish from The Stack Cougar-Burro Collegiate on Tuesday afternoon at the Golf Club of Estrella on the back of the Skyhawks one-under-par finish in the final round of the tournament.
 
Fort Lewis, despite shooting its best score of the tournament across its final 18 holes, fell one spot into fifth place with a team score of 881 (+17). Western Washington and Westminster carded three-under-par (285) and 11-under-par (277) scores in the final round to secure fourth-place and third-place finishes, respectively.
 
No. 27 Colorado Mesa shot the second-lowest single-round score of the tournament, going 16 strokes below par in the final round to jump back into second place on an 867 (+3) team total. No. 1 Colorado Christian cruised to its eighth tournament win in nine appearances this season on the back of an 831 (-33) team score. CCU's Adam Duncan and CMU's Cole Beyer tied for individual medalist honors on a matching pair of 205s (-11).
 
Traejan Andrews and Ronald Kildall III secured the Skyhawks a pair of top-25 finishes in ties for 15th and 17th, respectively. Andrews carded a 70 (-2), thanks to his second eagle of the tournament on hole 13 and his sixth birdie on hole eight, to finish one-over-par with a 217. Kildall III managed eight birdies for the event but shot a 73 (+1) in his final round to finish the tournament with a 219 (+3) overall.
 
Jake Chesler, Tyler Tyson, and Jordan Jennings all finished within one stroke of each other, with Chesler leading the pack in a tie for 33rd on a 224 (+8). Tyson and Jennings finished just behind in a tie for 35th on a pair of 225s (+9). Ian Henderson, who led Fort Lewis with nine birdies overall, competed as an unattached individual and brought home a tie for 49th on a final score of 228 (+12). It was Henderson's first appearance of the season.

Fort Lewis will spend the next 12 days on the home fairways of Durango before returning to action with its final regular season appearance at the Ruidoso Junior Golf Association's Palm Valley Classic at Palm Valley Golf Club in Goodyear, Ariz., on Monday and Tuesday, Apr. 7-8.
