Women's lacrosse launches RMAC season against CSU Pueblo

DURANGO, Colo. – Skyhawks women's lacrosse jumps into Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) play this week with a lone Sunday matchup against CSU Pueblo at Art and Lorraine Gonzales Stadium.

Fort Lewis will play the league game and then immediately return to nonconference competition throughout Spring Break. The remainder of the nonconference schedule features road games against William Jewell College (Mar. 12), Quincy University (Mar. 14), and Rockhurst University (Mar. 17). Games will be played in Liberty, Missouri, Kansas City, Missouri, and Quincy, Illinois.

Last Time Out
Fort Lewis played a neutral site "home" game against Davenport University in Denver last week where they fell by a final score of 19-7. The Skyhawks were outshot 30-14, including a 26-11 margin in shots on goal. Fort Lewis surrendered 20 turnovers and allowed 12 free-position shots.

Senior Phoebe Ramirez led the team with three goals, a career-high, followed by freshman Jasmine Nguyen's two goal, one assist outing. Junior Samantha Rodgers was a highlight reel on the draw with a program record of 13 on the afternoon. Sophomore Olivia Tilbury played 38 minutes in goal and made four saves.

Inside the Numbers
All of the teams in the conference have now played at least three games and have a body of work to compare statistics. Out of six teams competing in the RMAC, Fort Lewis ranks 6th in goals per game (7.33), 6th in assists per game (2.33), 6th in shots per game (19.33), 5th in shots on goal per game (15), and 5th in penalty minutes per game (6).

Nguyen ranks 10th in goals per game (2) and Zoi Delgado is 5th in assists per game (1.5). Sydney Tannaci is 2nd in ground balls per game (3.67) and caused turnovers per game (2.33) and Rodgers is 2nd in draw controls per game (6). Caley Lay ranks 3rd in saves per game (8.67) and 6th in saves percentage (.382).

Scouting CSU Pueblo
The Pack is 0-4 this season with two losses at home and two losses on the road. They have one common opponent with Fort Lewis, a 21-6 loss to Davenport University last Thursday. CSU Pueblo followed that game with a 17-13 loss to Ashland University.

CSU Pueblo averages 20 shots and 8.5 goals per game. The team has compiled 72 ground balls, 50 draw controls, and 31 caused turnovers. Moira Turpen leads the team and ranks 5th in the conference with 3.25 goals per game (13 total). The duo of Emily Doane and Sydney Gunnels follows with six goals apiece. Three players have double-digit draw controls, led by Turpen with 14. Breonna Mason leads the team with 18 ground balls and six caused turnovers. Mason has been the primary goalkeeper with a 18.24 goals against average and 50 saves.

Fort Lewis is 15-2 all-time against CSU Pueblo and has won the last eight matchups. The Skyhawks earned a 10-9 home win and 13-9 road win last season against the Pack.
