Women’s golf takes third at Maverick Challenge

Four Skyhawks earn top-10 finishes

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – Four student-athletes from the Fort Lewis women's golf team landed top-10 finishes on Sunday afternoon to guide the Skyhawks to an overall third-place finish as a team at the Maverick Challenge at The Golf Club at Redlands Mesa.
 
Colorado Mesa bounced back in round two to win team medalist honors on an overall score of 605 (+29). The Mavericks improved from a 308 (+20) in round one to a 297 (+9) today. Westminster captured second place on 610 (+34) total and single-round scores of 300 (+12) and 310 (+22). The Skyhawks followed the pack in third, cutting down 10 strokes from its first-round score of 316 (+28) to cap the tournament with a 306 (+18) and a 622 overall.
 
Westminster's Ashley Lam, a freshman from Taylorsville, Utah, utilized the lead from her first-round score of 71 (-1) to cruise to individual medalist honors with a 74 (+2) in round two for a final total of 145 (+1). Junior Dimery Plewe notched the highest finish among Skyhawks, carding a 76 (+4) in round two to stand at 154 (+10) overall and in a two-way split for sixth place.
 
Peyton Gibby shot an 81 (+9) in round two, dropping the freshman down into a tie for eighth place with fellow Skyhawk and senior Vivianna Holguin, who carded an even par of 72, as the two finished at 155 (+11) overall. Sophomore Isabel Bustillos rounds out Fort Lewis scoring contributors, as well as FLC's top-10 finishers, capping the tournament in a tie for 10th on a 158 (+14).
 
Sophomore Annika Gutierrez was next up for Fort Lewis, finishing in 16th on a 165 (+21) total, followed by Sabrina Ladd in 19th on a 172 (+28), and Elina Beyer and Sarah Grenemyer in 20th on a pair of 173s (+29).
 
Up Next
Fort Lewis will now prepare for the 2025 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Championship that will take place at the Boulder Creek Golf Club in Boulder City, Nev., from Sunday through Tuesday, Apr. 20-22.
