Two home games await women's lacrosse to close out year

DURANGO, Colo. – Women's lacrosse caps off the regular season this week with a Thursday and Saturday split against Colorado Mesa University and Westminster University.

Thursday will be the annual Morgan's Message game which supports the nonprofit organization that strives to eliminate the stigma surrounding mental health within the student-athlete community. Saturday is senior day for the graduating seniors: Caley Lay, Allie Elliott, Kylie Moser, and Phoebe Ramirez.

Last Time Out
Fort Lewis played one game last week, a home contest against CSU Pueblo that resulted in an overtime loss. The Skyhawks outshot the ThunderWolves 44-32 and held a 38-29 edge in shots on goal. Fort Lewis also dominated the draw circle with a 24-11 advantage, while the turnover margin remained close—26 for CSU Pueblo and 24 for Fort Lewis.

Senior Phoebe Ramirez paced the offense with four goals and an assist, followed by senior Diamond Velasco and Powless with three goals each. Freshman Maddie Thompson added a pair, while sophomore Piper Price dished out a team-high three assists. Thompson contributed two assists of her own. Junior Samantha Rodgers turned in a standout all-around performance, tallying seven ground balls, seven caused turnovers, and six draw controls. Senior goalkeeper Caley Lay made 13 saves in 61 minutes of action.

Scouting Colorado Mesa
The Mavericks are 8-5 on the year and 7-1 in conference play after splitting games over the weekend. Mesa started the homestand with a 20-9 win over UCCS before falling to No. 15 Regis on Sunday by a 14-11 final. The Rangers avenged their loss to the Mavericks in the conference opener on March 14, a 16-11 final in favor of Mesa.

Scouting Westminster
The Griffins are 5-8 overall and 2-6 in league play following three-straight losses. Last week, Westminster lost games to Regis (13-9) and UCCS (16-15). In the loss to UCCS, the teams were tied until the final minute of play when the Mountain Lions secured the game-winning goal.
