Skyhawks hold steady through final round in Goodyear

GOODYEAR, Ariz. – The Fort Lewis women's golf team dropped five strokes in its final round to ultimately capture a 19th-place finish on a team score of 627 (+51) at the Ruidoso Junior Golf Association Palm Valley Classic at the Palm Valley Golf Club.
 
No. 33 Biola maintained course and cruised to team medalist honors as the only squad to finish below par with a combined score of 573 (-3) after the two rounds. No. 13 West Texas A&M shot 578 (+2) overall and went one stroke below par in the final round to finish in second place and jump third place, and No. 38 CSU Pueblo, who finished at 580 (+4) overall.
 
Fort Lewis dropped five extra strokes in its final trip through Palm Valley Golf Club, carding a 316 (+28) in its second round to pair with its first-round score of 311 (+23) and finish at 627 (+51) overall. MSU Denver edged the Skyhawks in 18th place on a 625 (+49) while Hawaii Hilo and Northwest Nazarene fell behind FLC with totals of 636 (+60) and 642 (+66), respectively.
 
No. 32 Cal State East Bay's Torrie Bowman, who held a 69 (-3) and sat one stroke back in a tie for fourth place after round one, shot another 69 in her final round to capture individual medalist honors on a 138 (-6) total. Bowman led the field by two strokes and was one of just eight players to finish below par.
 
Dimery Plewe, who was second among Skyhawks after round one, stayed consistent and doubled down on her first-round score of 77 (+10) to finish in a tie for 53rd overall on a 154 (+10) total. Sabrina Ladd and Vivianna Holguin notched the second-highest finishes for Fort Lewis, both tying for 84th after carding a pair of 158s (+14).
 
Isabel Bustillos fell one stroke back in a tie for 90th on a 159 (+15), and Peyton Gibby another two strokes behind in a tie for 94th on a 161 (+17). Annika Gutierrez, who competed as an unattached individual, finished in a tie for 110th carding a 168 (+24).
 
Up Next
The Skyhawks will make one final regular season appearance in Grand Junction, Colo., next Saturday and Sunday, Apr. 12-13, at the Maverick Challenge at The Golf Club at Redlands Mesa.
