COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Piper Price and Jasmine Nguyen combined for eight goals, but the Skyhawks women's lacrosse team fell 23-12 on the road to UCCS.
Fort Lewis dropped to 1-12 overall and 0-7 in RMAC play, while UCCS improved to 8-3 (5-2 RMAC).
The Mountain Lions outshot the Skyhawks 40-23, including a 30-13 advantage in shots on goal. Fort Lewis committed 24 turnovers and went 14-of-19 on clears. UCCS dominated possession with 25 draw controls and 34 ground balls.
Price and Nguyen led the Skyhawks' offense, with additional goals from seniors Phoebe Ramirez and Diamond Velasco, junior Zoi Delgado, and sophomore Rilee Powless. Junior Samantha Rodgers recorded four caused turnovers, four ground balls, and three draws, while freshman Maddie Thompson led with six draw controls. Goalkeepers Caley Lay and Abigail Leighty combined for 11 saves.
The first quarter was tightly contested. After falling behind early, Fort Lewis tied the game 3-3 with a buzzer-beating goal from Nguyen. UCCS pulled away in the second quarter, outscoring the Skyhawks 7-1.
The Mountain Lions opened the third quarter with three quick goals to take a 14-5 lead. Nguyen answered with a free-position goal, but Fort Lewis trailed 18-9 entering the final frame. UCCS reached the 20-goal mark with 10:27 remaining. Price added a woman-down goal and later closed the game with her final score, bringing the final to 23-12.
Fort Lewis (1-12, 0-7 RMAC) returns home for its final three regular-season games, starting Saturday, April 12, against CSU Pueblo.
