Andrews embarks for NCAA regional in Riverside

DURANGO, Colo. – Fort Lewis men's golfer Traejan Andrews is heading for the Victoria Club and Riverside, Calif., this Thursday through Saturday, May 8-10, for the NCAA West South Central Super Regional.

Andrews will represent the Skyhawks as the program's second consecutive individual qualifier at an NCAA regional and the fourth overall since 2011. He joins Texas Permian Basin's Will Tate, Lubbock Christian's Hayden Bowman, and Texas A&M International's Juan Monckeberg as the four individuals from the south-central region alongside Cal State Dominguez Hills' Jonah Camarillo, Northwest Nazarene's Ben Mulder, Academy of Art's Giulio Zanichelli, and Hawaii Pacific's Fisher Ransom from the west region.

A private members-only course, the Victoria Club has hosted a plethora of premier events such as the U.S. Open qualifiers, U.S. Amateur, and several Amateur, Mid-Amateur, and Southern California Amateur qualifiers and championships. The course features over 1,400 trees, 50 greenside bunkers, five fairway bunkers, and stretches up to 6,557 yards from the blue tees with a slope of 129 and a rating a 71.5. In addition, the course consists primarily of 85-90 percent Poa-Annua and 10-15 percent Bent Grass.

Competing in nine of Fort Lewis' ten tournaments throughout the season, Andrews has registered three finishes inside the top 20, four inside the top 50, and has twice finished below par for the course. Andrews carries a 72.16 per round average this year and shot both his career-best single-round (63, -7) and three-round scores (206, -4) in the fall at the Ryan Palmer Foundation Invitational (Oct. 7-8). In addition, Andrews captured his first collegiate win at the Ruidoso Junior Golf Association's South Central Shootout back on Oct. 1, carding a 211 (-5) and winning medalist honors by three strokes.

The ten teams from the south-central region include Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Champions, defending national champions, and No. 1-ranked Colorado Christian, as well as Lone Star Conference Champions Midwestern State, Oklahoma Christian, St. Mary's, Colorado Mesa, CSU Pueblo, UT Tyler, Colorado School of Mines, Dallas Baptist, and West Texas A&M.

Representing the west region are California Collegiate Athletic Association Champions Cal State East Bay, Pacific West Conference Champions Hawaii Hilo, Cal State Monterey Bay, Chico State, Sonoma State, Simon Fraser, Stanislaus State, Cal State San Bernardino, Cal State San Marcos, and Western Washington.
