DURANGO, Colo. – One of the region's premier summer golf traditions is once again driving impactful change for student-athletes at Fort Lewis College.
Now in its 30th year, the Columbine Classic Duet Tournament—hosted annually at Glacier Club and Dalton Ranch Golf Club—has long served as both a celebration of community and a commitment to philanthropy. This year, Fort Lewis College Athletics is proud to be named the tournament's sole charitable beneficiary, continuing a legacy of support that has already left a lasting mark on the Skyhawks Women's Golf program.
For years, a portion of the tournament's proceeds has helped grow the Nick Turner Women's Golf Scholarship Endowment, providing scholarship support and opportunity for generations of student-athletes. In 2024, that tradition of generosity takes another major step forward.
On behalf of our student-athletes, coaches, and staff, I would like to express our sincere gratitude to the Columbine Classic Duet Golf Tournament and its committee members for their unwavering support. This event is a staple in our community, and we are honored to be a recipient. What an impact the entire group continues to have on FLC Golf.
I'm also incredibly proud to announce the Dolly Turner Women's Golf Excellence Fund. The Turner family has been synonymous with our women's golf program and continues to enhance the student-athlete experience. It's fitting that Dolly can be celebrated and recognized on the 30th Anniversary of the Columbine Classic. She has been instrumental in the growth and development of women's golf in the area. What a great day to be a Skyhawk!
- Travis Whipple, Director of Athletics
In honor of the tournament's 30th anniversary—and through the vision of a generous donor—FLC Athletics is proud to announce the establishment of the Dolly Turner Women's Golf Excellence Fund. This new initiative will directly support the Women's Golf program by enhancing the student-athlete experience and funding strategic programmatic priorities designed to elevate the team on and off the course.
The Columbine Committee is pleased to announce our collaboration with this year's beneficiary, the Fort Lewis Golf Program and Women's Golf Team, for our annual charity tournament," said Susan Voorhees, Columbine Classic committee member. "This year marks the 30th Anniversary of the Columbine Classic Duet. Dolly Turner, the last surviving member of the original committee, will play again. The Dolly Turner Women's Golf Fund was created to support this event and promote participation in women's golf.
Travis has applied for the golf program and women's golf team to be our beneficiary for three years, supporting their development and coaches. We are super excited to work with Travis and his team to make this an outstanding event, especially with his experience in bringing back the Skyhawk Club and his proven fundraising skills.
