COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Following a thrilling postseason run that ended in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) Tournament Championship, the Fort Lewis College women's soccer team has been tabbed fifth in the league's preseason coaches poll.

The Skyhawks capped the 2024 season with a 9-6-6 overall record and a 5-4-3 mark in RMAC play. After a steady regular season, Fort Lewis caught fire in the conference tournament, opening with a dominant 3-0 victory over No. 8-seeded Regis University. The momentum continued in Grand Junction, where the Skyhawks upset No. 18 Colorado Mesa in a penalty shootout, then edged (RV) MSU Denver—again on penalty kicks—to reach the title match. Their run concluded with a hard-fought 1-0 loss to the nation's top-ranked Colorado School of Mines.

Mines enters 2025 as the preseason favorite, earning nine first-place votes and 140 points. UCCS (three first-place votes, 130 points) and Colorado Mesa (one first-place vote, 117 points) follow, with MSU Denver (109 points) in fourth and Fort Lewis (95 points) rounding out the top five.

The RMAC also unveiled its Preseason All-Conference team, featuring 13 student-athletes from eight programs. Representing the Skyhawks is junior forward Abila Tapia of Albuquerque, who earned Honorable Mention honors last season. Tapia finished 2024 ranked second on the team with five goals, two assists, and 12 points.

Fort Lewis opens the 2025 campaign at home on Thursday, September 4 at 7:00 p.m. against St. Mary's University. Before then, fans can catch the Skyhawks in action during two home exhibitions: versus Adams State on Saturday, August 23 at 5:00 p.m., and in the annual Alumni Match on Saturday, August 30 at 3:00 p.m.
