Volleyball extends streak to four matches, best start since 2010

LUBBOCK, Texas – Skyhawks volleyball extended its winning streak to four matches with a pair of thrilling five-set victories on Friday, improving to 5-1—the program's best start since 2010.

Match One: Fort Lewis 3, Eastern New Mexico 2
Junior Jordan DeJesus powered the Skyhawks with a career-high 21 kills on a .400 clip, adding 10 digs for a double-double. Freshman Cambria Freymuth notched her third double-double of the season (13 kills, 14 digs), while newcomers Ellie Ames and Caleigh Sommers combined for 17 kills at an impressive .390 efficiency. Setting duties were split effectively as freshman Arianna Reyna tallied a career-best 32 assists and sophomore Addie Garn added 24. Defensively, sophomore Emery Pomroy came off the bench to lead the team with 18 digs.

The Skyhawks showed grit throughout the match. After erasing three set points in the opener, DeJesus hammered home a kill to earn set point before Garn delivered the finishing ace for a 27-25 win. Eastern New Mexico battled back with wins in the second (25-23) and third (25-17) sets, capitalizing on late Fort Lewis errors. The Skyhawks roared back in the fourth, hitting .429 while cruising to a 25-13 victory behind a 7-0 serving run from Chloe Ruhl.

In the decisive fifth, ENMU held match point at 14-13, but Fort Lewis refused to fold. DeJesus erased the threat with back-to-back kills, and an attacking error by the Greyhounds sealed the comeback, 16-14.

Match Two: Fort Lewis 3, Lubbock Christian 2
Fort Lewis carried its momentum into the nightcap, hitting .294 as five players reached double-digit kills. Freymuth led with 20 (.340) and 18 digs, followed by DeJesus (15), Alina Nunez (13, .333), and Butler (12, .421, 6 blocks). Reyna orchestrated the offense with a career-high 40 assists, while Pomroy anchored the defense with 27 digs.

The Skyhawks dropped the first two sets (21-25, 21-25) despite late pushes in each. With their backs against the wall, Fort Lewis flipped the script in set three, closing on a 4-0 run to win 25-20. Set four remained tight until Nunez came through in the clutch, forcing a fifth set with a kill at 25-23.

In the final frame, the Skyhawks surged ahead 7-4 with balanced scoring. LCU clawed back to tie it at 13-all, but Nunez hammered home her 13th kill to set up match point. Ruhl then iced it with a perfectly placed ace, lifting Fort Lewis to its second five-set victory of the day.
