Vollebyall continues nonconference play in Texas

DURANGO, Colo. – Fort Lewis College volleyball is on the road again, this time at the MCM Elegante Chap Classic, hosted by Lubbock Christian University.

The Schedule
The Skyhawks' three-match road trip begins on Friday with an 8 AM match against Eastern New Mexico. The teams squared off last week in Silver City, N.M. with Fort Lewis earning a three-set win. Fort Lewis will then turn its attention to a 3:30 PM match against the host team, Lubbock Christian. Finally, the Skyhawks wrap up the nonconference season on Saturday against Southwestern Oklahoma State at 10:30 AM.

Week One is Done
Fort Lewis came away from the Mustang Invite with a 3-1 record to jump out to its best start since 2017. The Skyhawks averaged 12.2 kills/set, 18.8 digs/set, 9.1 assists/set, and 1.9 aces/set through four matches.
Senior Ella Butler is leading the team with 2.85 kills/set on a .403 efficiency. Freshman Cambria Freymuth follows with 2.62 kills/set while junior Jordan DeJesus rounds of the top-three at 2.18 kills/set. Freshman Arianna Reyna and sophomore Addie Garn have combined for nearly eight assists/set. Sophomore Emery Pomroy leads the defense at 5.21 digs/set to lead the conference.

Scouting Eastern New Mexico
The Greyhounds are 0-4 after the Mustang Invite. The team is hitting .131 while allowing 10.6 kills/set from its opponents. Sophia Valdez leads the team with 2.79 kills/set at a .191 clip. Violeta Flores is the leading setter with 4.64 assists/set. Imahni Brown paces the squad with four digs/set and a receiving clip of .954.

In Fort Lewis' win over ENMU last week the team was led by DeJesus and Butler who combined for 15 kills. Pomroy came away with 20 digs in the three-set match.

Scouting Lubbock Christian
The Chaps are 3-2 with wins over Truman State, Southern Arkansas, and Wayland Baptist. LCU was 13-14 last season with a 9-7 mark in conference play. Through five matches, the team is hitting .192 with 12.6 assists/set, 18.7 digs/set, and 1.6 blocks/set.

Four players are averaging at last two kills/set, led by Emilee Sikora at 2.82 per set. Jake Workman puts away 2.12 kills/set while hitting .275. Offense is coordinated by Camdyn Sears who dishes out 8.59 assists/set. Abby Dominguez leads the way in the back row with 4.82 digs/set and just two receiving errors.

Scouting SWOSU
The Bulldogs are 1-3 this season with the lone win coming over McKendree in four sets. The team is coming off a 21-8 season in 2024 that ended in the second round of the GAC Tournament. SWOSU will look to replace production from its top attacker, Lacy Mott, from the last five seasons.

Through four matches, the Bulldogs are swinging for a .190 efficiency with 1.5 aces/set, 14.5 digs/set, and 3.1 blocks/set. Four players are averaging two kills/set, led by Kaylyn Christy at 2.57 kills/set. Cameron Turner leads the way at 8.8 assists/set. Jada Permenter is the top defender at 4.33 digs/set but has committed seven receiving errors for a .911 receiving percentage. Blocking is a bright spot with both Katja Blanchat (1.40) and Sydnee Winfrey (1.36) averaging over one block/set.
