Men’s golf secures tie for 12th at Shootout at PGA Riviera Maya

AKUMAL, QUINTANA ROO, MEXICO – Benjamin Harding captured a tie for 11th as an individual to lead the Fort Lewis men's golf team to a tie for 12th place as a team Tuesday afternoon at the Shootout at PGA Riviera Maya at the Tulum Country Club.
 
The top 15 finish marks the highest of Harding's career thus far, with the junior from Longmont, Colo., posting single-round scores of 74 (+2), 76 (+4), and 76 (+4) to sit at 226 (+10) overall, and ten strokes better than any other Skyhawk. With Harding at the helm, Fort Lewis posted an overall team score of 941 (+77) to tie with the host institution, Western New Mexico University, and edge Team Mexico (951, +87) and Texas A&M International University (981, +1127).
 
West Texas A&M University fired off a tournament-low 294 (+6) in the final round, to boast the only sub-900 team score of the tournament and snatch team medalist honors on a combined score of 893 (+29). CSU Pueblo and the University of Texas at Tyler tied for second place on a pair of 903 (+39) team scores. As for individual's it was No. 14-ranked Colorado Christian's Peyton Jones who put together a one-under 71 in his final round to climb two spots and claim individual medalist honors on a 217 (+1) overall.
 
Senior Ian Henderson continued to back up Harding, climbing seven spots in his final round thanks to a 77 (+5) to earn a tie for 42nd on a total score of 236 (+20). Traejan Andrews, who made the highest jump of any Skyhawk in the final round, moved up nine spots into a tie for 49th, finishing one stroke behind Henderson with a 237 (+21).
 
Jordan Jennings rounded out the four-scoring players for Fort Lewis, matching his second-round score of 78 (+6) to finish at 242 (+26) for the tournament. Jake Chesler was the final Skyhawk to make the trip, taking a tie for 64th on a 253 (+37) after jumping eight spots on the leaderboard with an 80 (+8) through his final trip around Tulum Country Club.

Fort Lewis will be back stateside next Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 6-7, as the Skyhawks head to Boulder Creek Golf Club, the site of the 2025-26 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Championships and the 2025-26 NCAA Division II Men's Golf National Championship, over in Boulder City, Nev.
