Skyhawks defense dominates in the desert, Fort Lewis handles Arizona Christian 58-10

Defense forces a staggering six turnovers

GLENDALE, Ariz. – Jacob Morris threw for 100 yards and two touchdowns, Jake Jones tossed another 57 yards and one touchdown, and seven other Skyhawks punched in scores as Fort Lewis (1-1) rallied from week one to dominate all facets of the game and force six turnovers en route to a commanding 58-10 rout over Arizona Christian (0-1) under the lights of the ACU Football Field.

Fort Lewis racked up 382 yards of total offense, scoring twice on the ground with a four-yard touchdown carry from KB Broadus, the first of his career, alongside an early eight-yard double-reverse to Zachary Gaumont for a walk-in score to open the game. Kameron Lewis added a score on the ground as well, recovering the first fumble of his career and taking it 27 yards untouched for his first touchdown. FLC finished with 225 yards rushing, just four yards shy of its 2024 season high.

Morris tacked onto the Skyhawks offensive assault, throwing for 100 yards and two touchdowns on 11 completions in 15 attempts (73.3 percent). Morris connected with Michael Collins for his first career touchdown on a six-yard strike, and Christopher Thomas Jr. for another two-yard score. Jones took to the skies as well, going 2-for-2 through the air for 57 yards, including a 50-yard over-the-shoulder dart to Solomon Latimer for Latimer's first career touchdown.

The Skyhawks' defense was relentless, holding Arizona Christian to 265 yards of offense, including just 74 yards passing. Jake Penney continued to spearhead Fort Lewis' defense, leading the squad with nine total tackles. Mj Dailey V, on the other hand, had the team's only sack of the night. Jordan Thomas, Juma Kashanda, and Tailan King each brought down an interception, and while Kashanda led the trio with a 35-yard return, King became the first Skyhawk to register a pick-six since 2017 with a four-yard score in a goal-line stand. Penney, Thomas, and Samuel Ballas each forced a fumble as well.

Firestorm quarterback Josh Bell was 8-for-14 (57.1 percent) from the pocket for 58 yards and two interceptions. Omari Milton threw for another 16 yards and one interception with one completion in four passing attempts. Ty Cole rushed for a game-high 93 yards on 12 attempts, including ACU's only touchdown of the night on a nine-yard rush. Jake Vitton also drilled a 32-yard field goal. Cooper King had a team-high seven tackles for the Firestorm defense.

Kuba Betlinski was lights-out on special teams, putting his first three field goal attempts clear through the uprights from distances of 25, 34, and 36 yards. Betlinski was also a perfect 7-for-7 on point after attempts, bringing the redshirt sophomore to a perfect 9-for-9 for the season.
