Penney, Butler rack up double-digit tackles

DURANGO, Colo. – In a Saturday afternoon contest that featured three defensive safeties, three total turnovers, and neither team eclipsing 300 yards of total offense, it was Black Hills State (1-3, 1-1 RMAC) who came away with a narrow 25-19 victory over Fort Lewis (1-2, 0-1 RMAC) to spoil the Skyhawks 2025 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference opener at home on Ray Dennison Memorial Field.

The Skyhawks were 0-for-2 on fourth down, while the Yellow Jackets converted on their only attempt. Both sides hauled in one interception, while the Skyhawks managed to recover one of two fumbles forced. Fort Lewis fumbled four times, but never lost possession.

Orlando Guevara rushed for a game-high 57 yards and one touchdown on six carries, highlighted by a 47-yard sprint to the end zone right up the middle. Solomon Latimer hauled in the only other Skyhawks touchdown, making a five-yard one-handed catch while spinning off his defender in the far corner of the end zone. Fort Lewis's only other score came on a 40-yard field goal drilled straight through the uprights by Kuba Betlinski.

Jake Penney and Jack Butler paced for the Skyhawks' defense, each racking up 10 total tackles across the afternoon, with Penney holding the edge with seven solo tackles against Butler's six.
