Fort Lewis volleyball off to best start since 2017 after sweeping day two of Mustang Invite

SILVER CITY, N.M. – The Fort Lewis College volleyball team closed out opening weekend in dominant fashion, sweeping Eastern New Mexico and Sul Ross State to move to 3-1 on the season—the program's best start since 2017.

Match One: Fort Lewis 3, ENMU 0
Fort Lewis opened the day with a 3-0 win over Eastern New Mexico, limiting the Greyhounds to just a .063 hitting percentage compared to a .185 efficiency for the Skyhawks. As a team, Fort Lewis tallied nine aces, 32 kills, and 57 digs. Junior Jordan DeJesus led the attack with eight kills (.313), followed closely by senior Ella Butler with seven (.412). Sophomore Avery Dembickie was the most efficient attacker with five kills on 12 swings (.417). In the back row, junior Emery Pomroy registered her second-straight 20+ dig match and added two aces, while sophomore Addie Garn dished out 13 assists and tied for the team lead with three aces.

The Skyhawks built momentum late in each set to close out the sweep. In the opener, DeJesus rattled off a key kill off the block to push Fort Lewis to an 18-15 lead, and the team carried that energy to a 25-18 win. Set two was all Skyhawks as Butler and Ellie Ames powered the offense before Butler closed the frame, 25-19. The third set was more competitive, but a highlight-reel diving save from Pomroy swung momentum back to Fort Lewis, and ENMU's 21st attack error of the match sealed the sweep, 25-21.

Match Two: Fort Lewis 3, Sul Ross State 0
The second match of the day was another three-set win as Fort Lewis held Sul Ross State to a .042 hitting percentage—the second opponent of the day to hit below .100. The Skyhawks out-dug the Lobos, 62-54, while adding eight service aces. Ally Nunez paced the team with nine kills and 16 digs, followed by Dembickie with seven kills (.400). Pomroy continued her stellar defensive play with 24 digs—her third-straight match with 20 or more. Reyna contributed 18 assists and two aces to round out the effort.

Fort Lewis rolled in the opening set, capitalizing on Lobo errors to take a 25-10 win. Set two saw the Skyhawks erase a 13-8 deficit with a 7-0 run, highlighted by kills from Kiya Wilson and Kalahiki along with Pomroy's serving. The surge helped Fort Lewis edge Sul Ross State, 25-22. In the third, Ames, Nunez, and Dembickie fueled a decisive 7-0 run that put the set out of reach. Dembickie delivered the final blow with a kill to clinch the sweep, 25-20.

With the victories, Fort Lewis (3-1) is off to its best start since 2017. The Skyhawks continue nonconference play next weekend at the Lubbock Christian Invitational, opening against Eastern New Mexico on Friday, September 12 at 9 a.m. The team will then face host Lubbock Christian at 4:30 p.m. before wrapping up the trip against Southwestern Oklahoma State on Saturday at 11:30 a.m.
