Skyhawks gear up for home finale, host Eagles and Hardrockers

2/18/2026 11:01:00 AM

DURANGO, Colo. – With just four games remaining in the regular season, the Fort Lewis College women's basketball team will host its final home contests this week—a Thursday and Saturday split against Chadron State College and South Dakota Mines.

With four games remaining in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) play, the Skyhawks sit at 7-9, tied for ninth place in the league. The top eight teams advance to the postseason tournament. Over the final stretch, Fort Lewis is set to face the current No. 7, No. 9, No. 13, and No. 15 teams in the conference standings. Fort Lewis has not advanced to the RMAC Tournament since the 2017-18 season.

Last Time Out
Fort Lewis faced its toughest road trip of the season at No. 4 Colorado Mesa and Western Colorado last week. The Skyhawks began the trip with a 69-50 loss to the Mavericks, pulling within two points late in the second quarter but surrendering late scoring runs. Fort Lewis shot 29.8 percent from the field and 29.2 percent from three, attempting nine free throws. Colorado Mesa finished at 40.4 percent from the floor and 45.5 percent from three while converting 22 free throws. The Mavericks also held a 43-rebound advantage and forced 16 turnovers. Fort Lewis recorded nine steals in the loss.

The loss to Western Colorado on Saturday was the toughest of the season for Fort Lewis after grabbing the lead with 14 seconds remaining. The Mountaineers drew a late foul and ultimately took a lead that held at the buzzer in a 59-57 final. Fort Lewis shot 35.7 percent from the field and just 14.3 percent from three but had a strong performance at the free throw line, going 15-of-19. The Skyhawks recorded 36 rebounds and committed only nine turnovers. Western Colorado shot 28.3 percent from the field and 23.9 percent from three while attempting 24 free throws.

Strength in Balance
Balanced production on both ends of the floor has been key to Fort Lewis' success this season. Offensively, six Skyhawks average at least six points per game, including two double-figure scorers. This depth has been especially important with returning All-Conference selection Deniece Ryan appearing in just five games due to injury.

That balance carries over defensively. Five players average at least four rebounds per game, including two freshmen and two first-year Skyhawks. Fort Lewis' defensive pressure has translated into strong ball disruption, as the team averages 13.0 steals per game — ranking first in the RMAC and 16th nationally in NCAA Division II.

Makaya Porter (2.4), Katie Lamb (2.0), and Josie Davis (1.9) lead the team in steals, while Porter also leads the conference with 1.3 blocks per game.
