GUNNISON, Colo. – The Skyhawks opened competition at the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Championships on Saturday with a pair of All-Conference performances and multiple qualifications for event finals.
The day began with the men's 60-meter prelims, where junior Zachary Gaumont placed second overall to advance to Saturday's final. The top eight runners qualified. Gaumont clocked a personal-best 6.73, an NCAA provisional mark that currently ranks 19th in NCAA Division II.
Freshman Eliana Angelino followed with a strong showing in the women's 400-meter prelims, placing second to secure a spot in the finals. Her time of 56.77 met NCAA provisional standards. Senior Josie Coulter also competed in the event, finishing 15th in 1:00.24.
The Skyhawks earned their first All-RMAC honor in the men's 5,000 meters. Junior Elijah Smith placed fourth to claim Second Team All-Conference recognition, crossing the line in 15:02.94. Smith made a steady climb through the field, moving from 11th to fourth over the second half of the race. Sophomore Evan Morozowich added a 13th-place finish in 15:27.78.
Senior Alliyah Molina delivered a standout performance in the women's 5,000 meters, placing second to earn First Team All-Conference honors. Her time of 17:46.62 broke the previous facility record in the field house and met NCAA provisional standards.
The distance medley relays (DMR) capped the evening. On the men's side, Brady Burrough, Payton Whitehead, Armando Fuentes, and Brody Hubbard combined for a third-place finish in 10:15.37, an NCAA provisional mark. The women's DMR team of Eliana Angelino, Janaya Mancell, Caroline Laughlin, and Hannah Hartwell placed fourth in 12:06.07, also reaching the NCAA provisional standard.
Day two of competition for Fort Lewis begins with the men's triple jump, followed by running events starting at 12:45 p.m. with the men's mile.
