Women's lacrosse plays home and away, opens RMAC schedule on Saturday

DURANGO, Colo. – Skyhawks women's lacrosse begins the week with a neutral, nonconference game against McKendree University before jumping into league play at home on Saturday versus CSU Pueblo.

Last Time Out
Fort Lewis suffered a loss in its season opener two weeks ago in a 16-5 final against Missouri Western State University. The Griffons controlled possession throughout the afternoon, holding a 17-6 advantage in draw controls that translated into a 27-13 edge in shots on goal. Despite the possession disparity, the Skyhawks' defense forced 18 turnovers and received 11 saves in goal, finishing 15-of-22 on clear attempts.

Senior Samantha Rodgers anchored the defensive effort with seven caused turnovers and six ground balls, adding a goal on the offensive end. Sophomore goalkeeper Olivia Tilbury was active throughout, totaling 11 saves, six ground balls, and three caused turnovers. Senior Diamond Velasco paced the offense with two goals and an assist, while junior Grace Butler and senior Valerie Garcia each added a goal. Junior Piper Price, last season's leading assister, dished out two assists.

Scouting McKendree University
The Bearcats are 4-1 this season with four-straight wins after dropping the season opener. Most recently, the team earned a 13-10 win over UCCS in Colorado Springs. In 2025, McKendree was 5-12 overall and 0-7 in conference play.

Statistically, McKendree is averaging 30.8 shots per game with a .734 shots on goal percentage. The team has totaled 72 goals compared to 50 for its opponents. They have 109 ground balls and 42 caused turnovers to go along with 66 draw controls. The Bearcats own a .811 clears percentage.

Three players have scored double-digit goals through five games, led by Ariyah LaFrance with 16. Elora Waardenburg follows with 11, and Lexi Macleod has 10. Jayna Barnden leads the way with nine assists to go along with nine goals. Macleod is the leader in draw controls with 19 to go along with 11 ground balls. Rylee Fox leads the team with 15 ground balls and nine caused turnovers. Amber Hayden has played all but eight minutes in goal and owns a 9.87 goals against average with 54 saves.

Scouting CSU Pueblo
The Pack is 2-1 on the year with wins over Coker University (18-11) and Southern Wesleyan (15-2). In the team's most recent game on February 23, CSU Pueblo suffered a 15-14 loss to Converse University. CSU Pueblo was 2-12 last season with both wins coming against Fort Lewis.

This season, the team is averaging 37.7 shots per game with a shots on goal percentage of .850. The Pack has 47 goals compared to 28 for its opposition. They have 91 ground balls, 48 caused turnovers, and 48 draw controls. CSU Pueblo has a .828 mark on clears.

Ainsley Jackson is the leading goal scorer with 11, but Emily Doane leads the way in points with eight goals and eight assists. Five additional players have at least three goals this season. Dylan Retzloff is the leading defender with eight caused turnovers and nine ground balls, followed by Doane's seven caused turnovers and nine ground balls. Hannah Duffee has played every minute in goals with 17 saves and a 9.33 goals against average.
