Women's lacrosse continues season on the road

DURANGO, Colo. – The Fort Lewis College women's lacrosse team will travel to Pueblo this week for a standalone Sunday contest against CSU Pueblo in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) action.

Last Time Out
The Skyhawks played their final home games of the season last week versus Regis University and UCCS. Fort Lewis dropped an 18-5 final to the Rangers on Thursday. Regis finished with a 33-19 advantage in total shots and a 25-14 edge in shots on goal. Fort Lewis struggled with turnovers, posting a 9-of-16 mark on clears. The Rangers also controlled draws, 15-10, and capitalized on six free-position opportunities.

Saturday's game against UCCS ended in a 14-7 score in favor of the Mountain Lions. The Mountain Lions outshot the Skyhawks 33-20, including a 26-14 edge in shots on goal. Fort Lewis committed 25 turnovers and finished 14-of-21 on clears. UCCS also held a 32-24 advantage in ground balls.

Scouting CSU Pueblo
The Pack is 4-9 overall and 1-6 in conference play, riding a six-game losing streak leading into Sunday's game. Fort Lewis hosted CSU Pueblo on March 14th, falling by a final score of 12-8. Last week, the team fell to UCCS (23-6) and Regis (15-9).

CSU Pueblo averages 25.7 shots per game with a .793 shots on goal percentage. As a team, they have compiled 144 goals and 56 assists with 27 goals coming on free position chances. Additionally, the Pack has totaled 332 ground balls, 181 draw controls, and 150 caused turnovers.

Offense is spread out amongst numerous players, including seven with double-digit goals this season. Leading the way is Emily Doane with 31 goals and 13 assists for 44 points. Ainsley Jackson follows with 24 goals while Sydney Gunnels has 22. Defensively, Maelynn Saucedo leads the team with 31 ground balls and 22 caused turnovers. Breonna Mason is the leading goalkeeper with nine starts, a 14.71 goals against average, and 74 saves.

Inside the Numbers
Defense leads the way for Fort Lewis with the duo of seniors Samantha Rodgers and Sydney Tannaci holding it down. Rodgers is one of the nation's leaders with 41 caused turnovers to go along with 34 ground balls. Tannaci adds quality support with 29 ground balls and 13 caused turnovers.

Senior Diamond Velasco leads the team in scoring with 16 goals, followed by sophomore Jasmine Nguyen with six. Junior Piper Price ranks second in total points thanks to five goals and nine assists. Junior goalkeeper Olivia Tilbury has played every minute in goal with 94 saves and a .385 saves percentage.
