Skyhawks wrap up season on the road

DURANGO, Colo. – Women's lacrosse is gearing up for its final two games of the season with road contests against Colorado Mesa University and Westminster University on the docket.

Last Time Out
Fort Lewis played just one game last week, a road game against CSU Pueblo that ended in an 18-7 loss. The Skyhawks were outshot 38-19, including a 31-15 margin in shots on goal. CSU Pueblo held a slight 14-12 edge in draw controls and forced 21 Fort Lewis turnovers.

Senior Diamond Velasco led the offense with three goals, while junior Rilee Powless added two. Sophomore Sierra Lund and freshman Kelcie Bolling each found the back of the net once. Senior Valerie Garcia paced the defense with four ground balls, and senior Sydney Tannaci contributed three ground balls and three caused turnovers. Junior Olivia Tilbury recorded 13 saves in goal.

Scouting Colorado Mesa
The Mavericks are 4-11 this season with a 3-5 record in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play. The team lost both games last week on the road against UCCS (8-7) and No. 19 Regis University (14-8). Fort Lewis hosted Colorado Mesa in late March and fell by a 15-2 final score.

As a team, Colorado Mesa has totaled 151 goals with 57 assists. The Mavericks average 27.7 shots per game with a .685 shots on goal percentage.  They own 280 ground balls, 158 draw controls, and 125 caused turnovers.

Three players have 20 or more goals this season, led by Carson Dickey with 28. Devon Morris and Kaylee Kittle follow with 22 and 20 goals, respectively. Courtney Havel leads the team with 11 assists and ranks third with 29 points. Defense is guided by Sophie Astone and Monroe McClimans who combine for 33 caused turnovers and 57 ground balls. Heather Hawkins has played every minute in goal with a 10.75 goals against average and .460 saves percentage.

Scouting Westminster
The Griffins sit at 7-5 overall and 5-3 in league play after losing their last three games. Last week, the team fell on the road to Regis (16-5) and UCCS (20-9). Fort Lewis hosted Westminster in March and lost by a final score of 20-8.

Westminster has racked up 133 goals and 65 assists this season, averaging 29.6 shots per game. The Griffins rely heavily on their defense and enter this week's games with 149 caused turnovers and 270 ground balls.

Individually, Marianna Dick is the player to watch on defense. She has 44 caused turnovers and 31 ground balls-leading the team in both categories. Jordan Williamson leads the team in scoring with 24 goals to go along with 11 assists. Olivia Petrosky follows with 22 goals and 11 assists. Three goalkeepers have played over 100 minutes, led by Sienna Garcia with 304 minutes and a 13.22 goals against average.
