Hartwell places seventh, earns First Team All-American recognition

EMPORIA, KAN. – Senior Hannah Hartwell bookended a historic career in the blue and gold with First Team All-American honors on Saturday, placing seventh in the women's 5000m at the 2026 NCAA DII National Championships.

The senior opened the race in the lead pack alongside runners from Mines and Adams State before settling into 10th place midway through. The 4200m mark was where she made her push, moving up several spots to sit in eighth. The next 400m moved her up to sixth, and the final lap finished in 1:10.66 to secure her final spot.

Grace Strongman of Mines earned the national title with a facility record time of 16:02.06, followed by fellow Oredigger Emily LaMena at 16:02.49.

Hartwell ends her Fort Lewis College career as an eight-time All-American after transferring into the program in 2023.
