The Skyhawks, who are ranked No. 8 in the WBCA Pre-season Poll, finished the 2008-09 season with a 28-4 overall record and a 18-1 record in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. Fort Lewis, under the direction of head coach Mark Kellogg, were RMAC Champions and lost to Minnesota State-Mankato in the NCAA Division II Central Regional Championship Game. The Skyhawks return 4 of 5 starters and have the RMAC Preseason Player of the Year in Allison Rosel, RMAC Preseason Defensive Player of the Year, Audrey George  and First Team All-RMAC Preseason player Laura Haugen. 

SF State returns six letter-winners from last year's team including three starters. The Gators returnees are Ashlee Austin-Bean, Jessica Hout-Freeman, ZaLisha Oliver, Donisha Tate, Kalia Williams, and Dominique Hunter. Also returning is red-shirt senior Andreaa Ohlssen. This is the second time these two team have faced each other.

The Wolves of Western Oregon finished last year with a 8-19 overall record and a 3-13 record in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference, under the direction of head coach Greg Bruce. This is the first time the two teams have faced each other.

The Screaming Eagles of Southern Indiana finished last season with a 14-13 overall record under the direction of 11th-year head coach Rick Stein. Southern Indiana finished the Great Lakes Valley Conference season with a 6-11 record. This is the first time the two teams have faced each other.
