Men's and Women's Soccer To Host NCAA Regional Tournament

1st and 2nd Round of NCAA Regional Tournament Hosted on Dirks Field

November 10, 2009. Durango, CO - A day after the Fort Lewis Men's and Women's soccer team both beat the Metro State Roadrunners for the RMAC Tournament Championship, they received word that they will both be hosting the first and second round of the NCAA Tournament. The #1 Fort Lewis Men's soccer team won both the RMAC regular season going undefeated and the RMAC Tournament for the fifth year in a row. The NCAA Championships Committee announced Monday that Fort Lewis will be hosting the first and second round of the national tournament. The Skyhawks earned the No. 1 seed in the Super Region and will be hosting the first and second round on Dirks field on Friday and Sunday. Fort Lewis will host No. 2 seed West Texas A&M (14-1-2) and No. 3 seed Midwestern State (12-3-1) at on Friday at 11am. Fort Lewis (19-1-0) will play against No. 4 seed Colorado Mines (15-2-4) on Friday at 2pm. The two winners of those games will face off on Sunday at 1pm on Dirks Field.

Fort Lewis has played Colorado Mines twice this year with the Skyhawks beating them both times 4-0 and 3-1. West Texas A&M and Midwestern State have also faced off twice this season tying both times. 


The #12 Fort Lewis Women's soccer team defeated the #4 Metro Roadrunners in a shootout on Sunday winning the RMAC Tournament for the third time in four years. The Skyhawks earned the bid to host the first and second round for the first time ever in the history of their program. The Skyhawks have only made it to the NCAA tournament one other time in 2007.

The Skyhawks received a bye for the first round being the No. 2 seed in the Central Region advancing to the second round. Fort Lewis (18-2-3) will host No. 3 seed Colorado Mines (17-4-0) and No. 6 Regis University (14-4-4) on Thursday at 1pm on Dirks Field. Fort Lewis will be playing the winner of that game on Saturday at 1pm. The Skyhawks have tied the Regis Rangers both times this season and have beaten Colorado Mines twice this season 2-1 and 3-2. Regis has only played Mines once this season defeating them 1-0.

The Fort Lewis Men's team moved to #1 in the NSCAA National Rankings as the Women's soccer team stayed #12.
