Skyhawks Dominate Midwestern State 82-54.

George Named Tournament MVP. Rosel Selected to All-Tourney Team

November 21, 2009.  Durango, CO. -  The #5 Fort Lewis Women's Basketball team shot 56% from the field  in the second half to route the Mustangs of Midwestern State 82-54 in the final game of the 2009 Skyhawk Classic. Fort Lewis was the only team to win both games in the tourney which consisted of three other teams, Midwestern St., Western St. and Dixie St. The Hawk's flew past Dixie St. the night before 68-54. The Skyhawks remain undefeated at 6-0 on the season.

Once again Fort Lewis got off to a hot start with a 7-0 run in the first two minutes but this time the Hawks' wouldn't allow any sort of a comeback for the Mustangs. With 10:56 left in the first quarter the Skyhawks had a secure lead at 15-1. The Mustangs would not hit a field goal until the nine minute mark thanks to a solid defense which forced double-digit turnovers on the Mustangs. 

With time running down in the first half, Audrey George ended up with the ball in her hands and sailed a three pointer in at the buzzer to help secure a 36-19 lead going into the break. Fort Lewis went 11-29 from the field and went an impressive 11-12 from the charity stripe. The Mustangs went 5-21 from the field, only shooting 23.8%. Allison Rosel had 13 points and 8 rebounds at the half while George recorded 10 points, 6 rebounds and 2 blocks in 14 minutes.

At the 13:22 mark, Abby Jackson hit a three then stole the ball and hit a lay-up which ended a 20-5 run for the Skyhawks (56-26). Fort Lewis would get up by as much as 36 on a Dana Schreibvogel jumper which made the score 74-38 with 4:48 left in the game. The Skyhawk reserves would finish the game off scoring eight more points to secure the victory 82-54 and keep their undefeated streak alive.

Fort Lewis would finish the game shooting 46% from the field, 35% from three and 80.6% from the free-throw line. Rosel led the Skyhawks with a double-double on 17 points, 10 rebounds and 5 steals. George also recorded a double-double with 12 points, 10 boards, 2 blocks and 2 assists. Jackson was able to knock in 3 three-pointers and a layup to finish the night with 11 points. Schreibvogel came off the bench and put up 12 points, going 8-9 from the free throw line. 

Audrey George was named the 2009 Skyhawk Classic Tournament MVP and Allison Rosel was selected to the All-Tournament Team. The Skyhawks will travel to St. George, UT to take on Academy of Art on Friday, November 27th at 3:30 pm and Dixie State on Saturday at 3:00 pm.
