Box Score

DENVER, Colo. — Thomas Hoang and Byron Cephers scored goals in the final 15:04 to lift No. 25 Fort Lewis College (9-5-1 overall, 8-2-1 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference) to a 2-2 draw at No. 16 Regis University (10-1-3, 5-1-3) today.

Hoang converted a cross from Abdel Becerra at 74:56 after the Rangers were unsuccessful at slowing down the Fort Lewis offense at midfield to cut the two-goal deficit in half. The goal was Hoang's fourth of the season.

Exactly nine minutes later, Regis' Nduo Chilaka was issued a red card, giving the Skyhawks a man advantage with 6:04 remaining. They'd need only half of that time, as Byron Cephers put Hoang's pass into the upper left corner of the goal with 2:57 left on the clock.

Although Fort Lewis dominated possession — they outshot the Rangers 29-10 and 14-4 in shots on target — the defending national champs committed mistakes that helped Regis grab the lead.

Nathan Kafer put Regis ahead 1-0 at 8:48 when an errant FLC pass put the ball at his cleats, leaving him with a one-on-one chance against Skyhawk goalkeeper Ryan Wirth. Kafer put the ball past him for his team-leading ninth goal of the season.

Fort Lewis battled back in the second half, outshooting Regis 13-2, but another turnover led to a goal by Ben Fredrickson at 74:05. Fredrickson was able to get the ball from the Fort Lewis defenders and, when Wirth came out to challenge, he dribbled into shooting position and buried a shot into the empty goal.

The physical contest was marred by 49 fouls (29 against Regis) and 11 cautions (six against Regis) and Chilaka's ejection.

Doug Passalaqua made 11 saves for the Rangers, while Wirth stopped two shots for FLC.

The Skyhawks have two remaining RMAC road games — at 3:30 p.m. Friday at Colorado Christian (1-13-0, 1-9-0) in Lakewood and at noon Sunday at CSU-Pueblo (7-8-0, 6-5-0) — before concluding the regular season against Adams State (1-12-0, 1-9-0) at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, October 31 at Dirks Field.
