Local students, kids admitted for just $1 to Saturday's football game

Gold Rush tuition drawing will be held at halftime for current FLC students

DURANGO, Colo. – Local high school, junior high and elementary school children can attend Saturday's Fort Lewis College football game for just $1.

Students normally pay $5 to attend Skyhawk athletic events.

Fort Lewis (2-5 overall, 2-4 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference) hosts Chadron State (5-3, 4-2) at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 30 at Ray Dennison Memorial Field in Durango.

“This is a great opportunity to introduce kids to the excitement of NCAA and Fort Lewis College football,” said FLC Director of Athletics Kelly Higgins.

In addition, as part of its “Gold Rush” for home football games, the Department of Athletics will draw one student at random to win a free semester's tuition at halftime of Saturday's game.

The winning student must be present, must be wearing Skyhawk gold (t-shirt, sweatshirt, etc.), and must present their current student ID card at midfield within 30 seconds of their name being drawn to win. Only one student will be drawn.

The winning student will have the equivalent value of one semester of in-state tuition after College Opportunity Fund (COF) credited to their winter 2011 bill. This value is $1,690.

“In these tough economic times, it's a great opportunity for a student to help finance his or her education,” said Higgins. “It's also a chance to bury the Orediggers in a sea of gold.”

All Fort Lewis College students are admitted free to regular season home athletic events — including Saturday's football game — with their current student ID card.

For those who don't own any gold Fort Lewis College attire, gold Skyhawk t-shirts will be sold by the football team at the game.

All other fans are encouraged to wear gold to the game.

Two students have had their names drawn earlier in the season, but weren't present to claim their tuition.
