Box Score

DURANGO, Colo. – Six different players scored goals as Fort Lewis College rebounded from its first Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference and Dirks Field men's soccer loss in nearly three years by defeating Colorado Christian University 6-0 today.

The Skyhawks (6-4 overall, 5-1 RMAC) saw six different players score goals and fired 42 shots (17 on target), while the defense limited the Cougars (1-10, 1-6) to just four shots (one on goal) during the game.

Despite launching 17 shots — including several from point-blank range — during the first half, Fort Lewis entered the locker room at halftime tied 0-0.

It didn't take long for things to change in the second stanza, though. Joe Barnd netted his third goal of the season just 1:53 into the second half off a Byron Cephers assist, and Cory Dean banged his third marker of 2010 off a CCU defender and into the net 1:34 later to make the score 2-0.

From that point on, the Skyhawks made few unproductive touches. A Thomas Hoang corner kick was headed into the goal by Jamie Cunningham at 57:37. Joey Madigan fed with Kyle Wood with a ball that he blasted into the back of the netting at 66:14. Berekk Blackwell benefitted from another perfectly-placed Hoang corner that he headed in from inside the six at 71:59. Grant Duke scored his first-ever Skyhawk goal at 88:25 to wrap up the scoring.

Kamran Khyltash and Ryan Wirth combined for the shutout, with Khyltash making the lone save.

Fort Lewis continues its five-game homestand when it hosts Metro State (7-1-2 overall, 4-1-2 RMAC) at 3:30 p.m. Friday at Dirks Field. The Skyhawks also welcome UC-Colorado Springs (1-8-1, 0-5-1) to Durango at 3:30 p.m. next Sunday.
