CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Sporting News picked the Fort Lewis College men's basketball team as a possible breakthrough team in their NCAA Division II men's basketball pre-season Top 10.
Additionally, Skyhawk senior
DeAndre Lansdowne, a six-foot-two guard from Sandia High School in Albuquerque, N.M., was chosen as a
TSN pre-season All-America honorable mention selection.
Lansdowne averaged 21.7 points, 6.1 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game in 2009-10, guiding the Skyhawks to a 19-9 overall record, 13-6 in the
Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. Fort Lewis finished second in the RMAC West Division last season.
As a junior, Lansdowne earned a bevy of honors, including first team Daktronics All-Central Region, second team NABC All-Central Region, first team All-RMAC and first team All-RMAC West Division accolades. He was also tabbed as the 2009 RMAC West Division Pre-Season Player of the Year and a member of the 2009 pre-season All-RMAC and All-RMAC West Division teams.
The Skyhawks open their season by hosting the George B. Boedecker Classic on Nov. 19-20 in Whalen Gymnasium, where they'll face Eastern New Mexico University at 7:30 p.m. on Friday and Northwest Nazarene University at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday. The Boedecker Classic also features games between UC-Colorado Springs and Northwest Nazarene at 5:30 p.m. Friday and UC-Colorado Springs and Eastern New Mexico at 3 p.m. Saturday.
